Wireless Outdoor Speakers

Any recommendations? I've spent about an hour browsing the interweb for some good ideas and I'm coming up with very little. It's pretty surprising.

Would it be possible to mount some regular wireless speakers under the overhang of my roof (the chances of water ever directly hitting them is slim)? Would they corrode or get destroyed easily? i really don't know the difference between a regular wireless speaker and one made to stay outside. Is humidity a problem for them? Keep in mind I'm in Austin. Thanks in advance.

When I got some a few years ago they were total crap. Since you are going to have to have a power source anyway (wires), why not run speaker wires?

Most wireless speakers are battery powered.

Nick, the house we live in right now we rent, so tapping holes for speakers would probably be out of the question. Also, there really isn't a good place to run wire to to our outdoor area. Wirelss would just make everything easier.

If you have an mp3 player there are some decent options at Rat Shack for portable speakers. Nothing like the cost of Apple accessories. I just couldn't believe how ****** the wireless speakers were for me. Recoton was the brand, I think.

I would recommend a portable boom-box. Changing batteries is bound to suck, and the sound quality a typical battery powered speaker delivers is bound to suck as well. If having one source play audio (your indoor stereo, I presume?) is the deciding factor, then there are "rabbit" type wireless tx/rx's available for little money. Of course your boombox would need an auxillary input. In fact, if you were only to play audio sourced from inside, I would consider computer speakers with a sub; They always have aux inputs and you can get great value there as far as sound quality.

Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to play from one source (at least that's what i jhad in mind). When we throw parties and such we usually have music playing and in order to hear it we have to open the sliding glass door or a window. I'm just looking to see if there are any alternatives to wired outdoor speakers.

I have some Bose outdoor speakers mounted under the eaves above my hot tub.

They are not wireless.

They have MUCH better bass response than any others I heard when shopping aroud.

I got them at Best Buy.

Rat Shack has two sets of speakers. One around 30 watts and one around 60 or 70. About 30 and 50 bucks, respectively. You can hook your mp3 up to them and blast out your neighbors. I have both sets. I hooked the more powerful pair up to a DVD player and used a projector to show Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom to about 100 Boy Scouts at camp week before last. It was outstanding. The set even comes with a subwoofer. It's not audiophile, but it's perfect for outdoor entertaining. If you save the box, it's smaller than your average boombox. We take them down to the fishing cabin near Baffin Bay and really enjoy our tunes on the porch watching the grinders on their way down to the Land Cut.

Does anyone know what the ramification would be if I bought regular wire speakers and put them outside, but mounted under the overhang? They'd probably never get wet, but will be susceptible to moisture. What are your thoughts on this?

I have some Bose that are mounted under an Arbor. They are sheltered only by the vines. They get rained on regularly and it's not a problem. I have a volume control out there. The wires run underneath the in-gound swimming pool

Since they will be under an eave, and directly out of the sun and water, any speaker in a plastic or metal case will be fine. You want to avoid speakers with paper cones (humidity) and ports (bugs).

Oh yeah. Out at the ranch I have a pair of $20 KLH speakers that are wired with regular wire and are mounted under the eaves. 6 years and going strong. I also have 4 of them mounted under the seats of my Jeep Scrambler that lives at the ranch and the beach. They are still just fine and the Jeep doesn't really have a top. They might have been as cheap as $15 at Costco.

I put 6x9's in the soffit of our patio. The sound quaity of any comparably priced outdoor speakers wasnt even close.

Running exposed speaker wire wouldnt be a problem at all.

Outdoor speakers

These speakers are a great buy if you don't already have a set of some other brand. Don't shy away from the price. They are good outdoor speakers.

I too had the Recoton wireless speakers. They were total ****. I blew them out in the first week I had them and immediately took them back. Do not waste your time or money.

Crap. I just noticed the out of stock note on the page.
