Broadcom integrated wireless - Sucks
D-Link - Sucks
Netgear - Outstanding

Why is it that the two options on my laptop suck? Dang it... now I have to go buy another network card.

Microsoft's wireless network card are pretty good, picked up a PCMCIA one for 5 bucks.

I'll agree on the DLink, got one for my PC and it's on the fritz every few hours. Siemens stuff is order of magnitudes shittier though.

Linksys- sucks. I spent an hour on the phone with their tech support trying to get my linksys card to work with my linksys wireless router. They finally said sorry, no help for you, and hung up.

I popped in an old SMC I had laying around and it's worked great

Get a Proxim ORiNOCO. I've used their cards for the better part of three years and they have been excellent. Outstanding reception (I get a full signal throughout my two-story house), great speed, no dropped connections, no problems whatsoever.

Their A/B card is $30 on Amazon. I use the A/B/G card, which is about $75 on Amazon.

The ORiNOCO line has changed hands a few times (it was originally developed by Lucent) but the quality has not dropped off at all.

Some user reviews. You don't find too many PC card adapters on CNet with 85-90% thumbs up ratings. Most are 70% and worse.

I just bought another Netgear on Amazon.com since my wife's works so well. I figure lightning just might strike twice...

My Linksys 5.4 Mbps G card works extremely well. I just hope it's not torching the twins as I use it on my lap. That is a concern of mine.

it's all hit and miss realy...just see which card you get was rated the best on something like cnet. With that said my 802.11 g wireless router and card have worked very well since the firmware upgrade.

For you desktop users, Fry's has reconditioned Netgear 802.11b USB adapters for $29. Bought one and it works like a champ. They come with a limited warranty, but I've never needed it with Netgear stuff I've bought in the past.

Last night I bought a Netgear G router and Card combo kit based on the recomendations here. Hooked it up in 15 minutes and it works great! Thanks a lot!

Had a Linksys router and laptop card 4 years ago that stopped communicating. I replaced the router (at Linksys technical support's suggestion) with another Linksys unit. Same problem. Then I replaced my Linksys laptop card with a Netgear card and the connection has been peachy ever since.

Oh, the pain of inexperience...

I've tried almost every brand of wireless router and card.. netgear, linksys, d-link, microsoft.. and they all work fine for me. Its just a matter of configuring the router and card right.
