wireless DSL question

I have SBC DSL on my destop machine now

Im getting a laptop that comes with wireless support built in (Intel Pro wireless 2200(b/g)

besides a router...do I need anything else to have my laptop connenct to the DSL and still have my desktop on the same connection? I just have the regular DSL modem they supplied when I signed up

The wireless router should be the only thing you need. I have the same setup where my PC is wired to the router and my laptop is wireless.

by the way, SBC recently offered the DSL Pro package for only $3 more per month. Up to double the speed of the normal DSL. I've been seeing about a 50% increase.

i upgraded to that package just the other day but it hasnt kicked in yet

they said it could take 10 days to activate

how long did it take for yours?

I guess another question would be what is the best

router brand for me to get? I will have my desktop and laptop

sharing the connection. I dont want to spend a ton of $$ on a router with what $$ im putting out on the laptop but I dont want to waste money either buying crap

I have a Netgear that has been flawless, but I imagine most all will work just fine.

I have a Belkin wireless G router and haven't had any problems. The signal fades when my laptop is in my bedroon, but not a big deal.

Netgear or Linksys, whatever's cheaper. Just make sure it has ports for your desktop's rj45 connection, and you're set. Pretty easy. Make sure you turn the encryption on for the router.

Netgear. They are normally pretty cheap and it has been almost flawless. It might be the modem when my connection does get cutoff. Just unplug both of them for 5 seconds and plug them back in and everything will be fine. Happened less than 5 times in 3 years.

Make sure you don't have a wireless router already. They sent me something called a Wireless Gateway from 2Wire. You might not even have to purchase anything.

I just disconnected my SBC DSL in favor of a Grande bundle. You are welcome to have my wireless router. It's a 2-wire or something like that that SBC gave/sold to me for my dsl.
