Wire Season 5

Okay the chinese counterfeighters got around to this finally so I watched it over the weekend.

Spoilers...

I watched in shocked awe when Omar got capped. I had dreamed Omar would take down everyone but alas, not to be. After he was shot I was hoping he was just wounded or something.

I paused it as he hit the ground and sat there for 10 minutes unable to watch anymore. I waited until the next day to watch some more. I think I've never been so upset at at TV show.

Still, that's the only way he could go out. Farewell badass uber hero. Gun-toting , vocalizing, no fearing, larger than life demigod - you feel me?

I think season 5 was the least best (there is no 'worse' when discussing the wire). I am stunned Kima ratted out the team. That little ****** Scott embodies everything I think about the slanted, untrustworthy MSM.

In the end I'm glad Chris and Snoop got got, sad for Prop Joe, glad about Cheese (D-bag).

WTF is up with Dukie - that totally sucked too. However Bubs coming around was great.

That show manipulated me blantantly for years. I am helpless before it's power. I recently watched everything again (with the exception of Kima's scenes with baby mama) - it's better the second time.

Anyway - adios wire, I guess I'll watch CSI or Desperate housewives or something

I hated the scenes with Dukie going back to see Prez just to get money for drugs. Prez would have bent over backwards to help Dukie, but Dukie was ok with burning that relationship just to get high that day.

it killed me too.

Also when Mike said "I know what goes on in there' I thought Dukie was tricking. The pictures on the wall were weird and they led in the little horse.

RIP - You feel me?

I just finished a week and a half long binge of all 5 seasons of the Wire and all I've got to say is WOW

. I'm not sure how much it has to do with the way I viewed them or if its entirely due to show, but never have I been so enthralled and obsessed with the characters of a tv show. I was seriousy down after Stringer Bell and Omar were killed. And I absolutely hated Marlo and Scotty. Man this show was a great piece of work and it's a travesty that it never won any awards and was barely even nominated for anything worthwhile. Great ******* series!!!!

So I'm not the only one who held out hope for a few minutes that Omar might be able to get up & walk off that .38 to the head.

Dukie shooting up in the end was the part that got me misty. I knew it was coming--Dukie is Bubbles--but still wasn't prepared for it. That's the beauty of The Wire: the game is still the game & it will continue to be played. Dukie never had a chance given his family situation. Promoting him to high school was the worst thing that could have happened as he lost the only positive role model (Prez) & structure in his life. One could argue that the money Prez gave Dukie was repayment of the gift Dukie gave him in season 4 (Dukie was the only student to answer the first math problem thereby giving Prez the confidence to continue teaching). All we're left with hoping is Dukie being able to scratch out a living & some day crawl out of the basement a la Bubbles.

As painful as it was to watch, Simon & Burns finished it just exactly right. There was never going to be a happy ending for The Wire. Some good moments here & there & brief glimmers of hope, but the real problems are all still out there.

it's not much, but you should definitely check out the "prequels" that ran on HBO on Demand (and are surely on the internet).

they're all shorts, but you take what you can get.

also, you should definitely check out "Generation Kill" if you're a Simon & Burns fan.
