Winning Tomorrow and National Seeding

How do you think winning the tourney championship will effect national seeding. I know most thought that since the seedings are announced on Sunday, winning or losing would not change our seeding. Is that still the conventional wisdom?

I think a better question is what would be the impact of a slight change in national seeding, such as a No.3 overall seed versus a No.5 overall seed.

And I think the answer is: next to nothing.

The only thing that matters here is that we earn a national seed and get to host a regional and a super regional. We've done that.

I agree about the seeding. When the final 8 teams arrive in Omaha seedings don't mean much because they are the hottest teams at the time and parity is rampant.

My guess is the national seeds have already been determined, as have most of the sixteen host sites. We will still be playing tomorrow when they announce the top eight seeds, so how can the game matter?

The only thing left on the table right now are the various conference reps and the at large bids.

The only reason to win tommorow is because winning is good while losing sucks. Having another championship trophy is also good. Confidence after playing a great week of games is good.

But there will not be any implications at all for the NCAA tournament. I think they will even announce the national seeds before the game is over.

We were a top 8 seed before the tourney regardless. Realistically, all that matters is that you are one of those top 8 seeds. If you can't get that, then you at least want to be a regional host team.

And I was pretty sure that the top 8 will not be announced tomorrow. What will be "announced" (as in scrolled along the bottom of the screen) are the 16 regional host sites. All "seedings" and pairings will be announced Monday.

Actually, as I recall, they do announce the top 8 seeds. I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it. And then they fill in the brackets tomorrow.

The 16 regional sites and hosts will be announced on the BottomLine of ESPN Networks and atThe Link at approximately 2:30 p.m. Central time on Sunday, May 24.

The 2009 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship 64-team field, with first-round regional pairings and site assignments, will be revealed in a live, half-hour telecast on ESPN at 11:30 a.m. Central time, Monday, May 25.
