Windows Mobile 6 upgrade

I have the first Blackjack phone and I'm considering the upgrade to WM6. I know the steps I need to take to get it on my phone but I had a few questions.

Has anyone upgraded their phone? Doesnt have to be a blackjack. How do you like it?

Am I going to have to save all my phone numbers on to my SIM card before I start this?
Are there any programs I am going to lose---downloaded and preloaded?

I have not upgraded to 6 yet but will chime in on one of the other questions.

To save your contacts, just find any computer that has outlook and activesync and plug into it. Tell activesync to sync up the contacts.

I refused to do this for a long time because I never used Outlook for anything and did not see the point. Looking back, that was foolish.

It is much easier to manage contacts on your computer and send the data back to your phone with a simple sync. Not to mention you will always have all addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of everyone you know. Plus, you have redundancy in case one of the devices fails. And finally, if your contacts do the same, you can just have them send you the vcard for easy entry.

You should really look into this.

As far as upgrading goes, I am almost certain that upgrading is a complete flash of the device, therefore everything is gone.

Confirmed. From the MS website:"Upgrading the ROM Code erases all of personal data and custom-installed applications from the device. Make sure all of your personal information and data are backed up to your PC via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center. After updating the ROM, copy the data back to your mobile device and reinstall your applications."

Let us know how the upgrade goes as I am considering the same thing.

Thanks for the info. I'm still not sure if I'm going to do it yet or not...might be tomorrow or the next day. Anyone else have any input on this?

Anyone else have any input? I don't think I'm gonna upgrade unless I have info that it will work like it is now. I dont want to install it and then have crap left for a phone.
