Windows Media Player problem

I use Media Player for listening to music. Every now and then when I go into my Media Library and click on a song, I get an error message. All the songs error out, the color of the title changes from white to orange and an exclamation point shows up next to the title.

The standard reboot solves the problem. But I'm getting tired of having to do that. Anyone know what the deal is? And save me the "Microsoft sucks" stuff. I know that. But WMP came with my computer and it was free, sort of.

I'm running version 9.00.00.3128.

Version 9 was acting flaky for me too. So I just upgraded to the new version 10- which has an interface more like iTunes/ musicmatch. I still use Musicmatch or Winamp for listening to music, however there is an app I use for timeshifting online radio that I can only get MS to work with. I have read the usual ms comments- 'bloatware', etc.- but but the new media player seems to work well so far.

Did you recently change the directory where you were keeping the songs? This happened to me when I moved a lot of my songs from C: drive to D: drive. When you do that, Windows Media Player tries to find the song in the directory where the song originally was and will not change it when you move the song. Try changing the file dir in windows media player and see if that works.
If that doesnt work then I would have windows media player search for new songs on your whole computer.

Nope, everything is still on the C. I downloaded 10 last night and it's working fine right now. I noticed the issues with 9 when I tried to open a mpeg, wav or avi file that someone linked into Hornfans and then later tried to listen to music. I have not tried to open any of those file types since then but we'll see.

happened again today with 10. I hadn't even opened any media (besides the music stored in the Media Library) since the last time I rebooted. It just seems like every 36-48 hours the thign craps out.

Now I can't open 10. When I try, it insists on telling me that I need to install it. When I try to install, it errors out. Screw this, I'm trying winamp.
