Windows ME

Over the last couple weeks my machine takes forever to load the desktop, and in some cases won't load at all. Have to do a manual re-start, and in most cases desktop will load. I assume this is the shittiness of ME rearing it's head, but not totally sure. Feedback appreciated.

You also might want to check your power supply fan to see if it's clogged with dust. When computers overheat they get very sluggish.

Bizarre, mine (same OS) just started this as well. Full virus scan, negative. And I use a Norton Firewall. I'm still not convinced that I caught a bug. I just haven't gotten around to running the scan in "safe" mode (which I understand might catch some that running in normal mode won't).

I remember a link to a site that was a web-based virus scan - it scanned your computer, possibly catching something that might have defeated (somehow?) your on-board antivirus software. Anyone have that link?

Just got back on line after an extended absence and noticed your question. Easiest thing to do would be to boot to safe mode (either tap F8 during the initial boot or hold the shift key down during the initial boot). Once in safe mode go to start, then run. Type msconfig. This will bring up the windows configuration screen. click on Selective startup under the general tab and remove the check from load startup group. click apply then ok. you will be prompted to reboot. click yes.
computer will restart. should boot fairly quickly to the desktop. you have not uninstalled anything just disabled all the programs in your startup file. The computer will automatically activate those applications needed to boot to windows. If still having problem getting to the desktop then run a clean boot - in safe mode in msconfig, remove the checs from the other items in the selective startup, click apply and ok and reboot computer. if still having an issue, then disconnect any peripherals connected to the computer and reboot. once the boot is normal then start adding things back one by one till the system slows down again. the last item added is the cause of your issue and needs to be removed from the system or repaired (if hardware). Hope this helps and is not too late for assistance.
Good Luck and Hook 'Em!

My computer does the same thing and I have ME. ME sucks ***, but I am not going to upgrade since i am moving in a couple months and this computer aint coming with.

ME is a total piece of ****

I had it and it all of a sudden starting doing all sorts of things.

I had a friend who builds and troubleshoots computers tell me to get that crap off of their and get a real OS

After seeing this webcam pic of Martling at his 'puter I'd recommend he just upgrade the whole system...and take a bath before bedtime.
