Window Unit A/C

Where would be the best place to get a Window Unit A/C? I have one that needs to be replaced, and I don't want to spend more than I need to. My house is only about 900 sq ft so I need something that will 'mostly' cool the whole house. I do have a smaller window unit in my bedroom.

I've seen a 28,000 BTU unit at Sears for $649.

Any better ideas?

Thanks!

Use this to calculate the size unit you need. While it may be tempting, don't buy more total capacity than recommended. It will cool too quickly and won't dehumidify adequately which is more important than temperature wrt comfort level. You may also want to consider two smaller units to share the load and provide more even cooling.

Sears wouldn't be my first choice and this isn't a good time to shop since it's a seasonal item and most stores won't have stock for a while. I'd definitely check Costco online (best warranty), Lowes, HD, and Fry's.

I got mine at Sears and got a great price but I waited a few weeks and planned. I save soooo much money with getting the ten dollar more expensive version with timers and programmable whatchamacallem's.

That seems like way too many btu's for what you need. Also, do you have ceiling fans? If so, get them. That is what really helps you save money and get better cooling (other than making sure your house is energy efficient/smart).

Ceiling fans are a must. I spend maybe 75 bucks a month total for my electricity in the hottest months of the summer. In fact, less than that as my bill is usually 110 bucks which includes trash and water costs.
