Win XP SP2

I installed Windows XP on my machine from the update webpage. After the installation I can no longer surf the net.
When I open IE all I get is " Page Cannot Be Displayed". I have called my ISP and they walked me through some different exercises. Finally they said their service may be down in my area. I find it very coincidental all this happened after loading SP2. Any of you computer geniuses have any ideas?

never happened on any of the computers I have updated. My aunt said something like that happened to some of the laptops her company used. It was something with the way they logged into their computer when it loaded up. Do you log into a remote server somewhere or is it just a personal computer? She does marketing stuff for Microsost so when she logs on, even from home, it connects her to a company computer somewhere. That is why I ask.

try disabling the windows firewall (from cntrl panel) and see if it works.

Thanks for the replies. I have it working now. I had some serious spyware and virus issues going on . I had to do a clean install of Win XP. It's now running great. Damn this thing moves faster than ever.
