Win XP control panel and classic view

ok, so my uncle has somehow managed to switch his control panel to classic view and he can't get it back to category view. He's new to computers and for some reason this is a big deal to him. Anyway, I'm more familiar with win 2000 but I do know there is a "switch to classic view" or "switch to category view" in the win xp control panel on the upper left. The problem is that his computer no longer has this panel on the left. I figured this panel on the left was an option under the "view" menu but I can't find it. Any suggestions.

Let me tap this one in for a bird.

Right click the task bar.
Select Properties
Click the Start Menu tab
Choose your poison

Thanks for the help but I'm talking about the control panel not the taskbar. Any other suggestions... Specifically about the panel to the left in the win xp control panel...

try Tools, Folder Options, then on the general tab make sure "Show Common Tasks in Folders" is chosen. Ok out and your option to switch to Category View should be back.
