Wilshire Homes

Anybody had a home built by these guys? I'm considering having them build on my lot. Any feedback from current homeowners or contractors that work with them would be appreciated.

I think they are descended from NPC.

If that is true, I'd say look around for another builder.

Saw one house they were framing in a new 'hood near Round Rock several years ago - they were using 2X4's for rafters.

the dude who runs wilshire (unless i'm confusing companies) has a son named nash...nice kid, but i can't comment on the quality of his daddy's houses.

It would not be a bad idea for ANYONE who is building to hire an independant real estate inspector to come in periodically throughout the course of the construction to check things out on your behalf.

What you want is a chance to correct things before the sheetrock goes up & things get away from you.

If you are interested in a consultation on what to do with a roof (things most sales people won't mention, but they will talk to you ad naseum about upgrading your light fixtures & putting in tile but next to zero when it comes to energy efficiency for the attic envelope), I can talk to you pro bono @ length.

There is a LOT you can do with any house (even on your own) before the home is complete.

From everything I can tell, Wilshire seems to make good quality homes. They have good ratings and previous clients seem to be happy.

I will take the advice regarding getting an inspector in. Is that something I should negotiate with the builder. I.e. Is the builder going to allow an inspector onto the homesite and going to heed what they find. They will be building on my lot - so it isn't like I can just walk if the quality isn't to my liking.
