his speed is ridiculous. it makes me really sad to see him go to the thieves, but you knew he wouldn't be a baylor signee in the end. hopefully, this gives brown another reason to cross off OU, and maybe even gives sims some second thoughts about OU given their crowded RB situation.

Kinda seems appropriate that a dude with a mohawk plays in Oklahoma. Perhaps he can get a part-time job at Choctaw.

OU now has 8 recruits in 2011 class:

1 QB
2 WR
1 TE
1 RB
1 DT
1 LB
1 DB

In Williams and Metoyer they get one of the top RBs and top WRs in the state of Texas.

Interesting they haven't gone out and gotten even 1 OL yet. Texas has already loaded up with 6 OL recruits, including the best in Texas (Flowers) and Arizona (Westerman) Granted OU had a very good OL class in 2010. But with their past record with OL recruits (high attrition rate) and the fact that you want to take some quality kids at every position every year, it is starting to look like a big hole at OL for OU this year.

Great pickup. I think he's right there w/Brown and Green for top in the state.

hornpharmd, it looks like we're in good shape w/Brey Cook from Arkansas. Don't be surprised if we get La'Raven Clark. Kid's film is damn impressive, but he's more of a project (similar to Cochran). Aside from those 2, I'm just guessing. We've got quite a bit of youth on the OL heading into this year with the 5 true frosh. We also had a young TE that ended up sliding inside as well. If we pull 2 this year, our numbers should be solid in 2011.

it isn't like we aren't trying to get OL's signed. ufortunately, we don't have 6 OL in the state beating down our door to play. we have to work a bit harder.

OU is tight on ships this year. they would have been able to pull several combinations of the #3-5 RBs in texas in sims, marquez, and williams (apparently looks like the latter two, with marquez as a WR). our job is to make sure we get at least 1 of the top 2 (brown or green, or heck both if humanly possible). the message boards would get ugly if we miss out on the top four guys in the state at RB.

Another kid who doesn't want to play for a MNC. It's OK. blOwU always picks up a few pieces of Texas Gold, it's not like their state is rolling out a bunch of NFL caliber kids.

As for OL, stoops has the JUCO machine to fall back on, remember? Hey when there's great athletes who are horrible students just put in a "friendly" JUCO and then come back in 2-3 years and see what your $$ has done for them.

Only 3 NFL 1st rounders this year in Bradford,McCoy, and Gresham all from OK.

"Doubtful"

You're blind man.... The failure to lock up a stud running back is something that indicates a flaw. You can whitewash it all you want but everyone knows a stud running back is what we want and something is preventing us from landing one.

If you don't think Major has an impact on this because he was a quarterback and not a running back then by extension you can argue that assistant coaches don't matter. You can argue that football is football and you can plug a former running back in as the secondary coach.

I think in big-time football you need specialists with true insight to the position.

what is it with this questioning of major? it seems like all the horn boards are getting this question and always by people who aren't major contributors to the boards. longstanding regulars swat the questions away, but someone is trying to plant the seed of doubt in our minds.

why?

i really liked how scipio over on barking carnival answered some unknown name bringing up the question:

'Our recruiting is program and camp based. Not on the solitary rainmaker ******* a recruit’s Mom so we can nab him.'

an outsiders perspective

the problem is not your personnel. you've landed some pretty damn good backs in the past few years. the talent is there.

the problem is the scheme and the offensive line.

commit to running the ball and you'll be amazed at how good your RBs look.

not really and prop joe nailed it. It's scheme that's affected our running game, not talent, and certainly not Major.

Football's not a static sport. Teams fine tune and change offensive and defensive approaches every season. Some years, the changes are more pronounced than others. The Horns are in the process of putting in a new offense for Gilbert, one that will emphasize power running and the overall run game a lot more. We have the talent in the backfield, and on the line, to make it work, even if there are some adjustments to make at the start of the season.

This questioning of Major's influence on our running back recruiting is not coming, for the most part, from those here who know that much about the game, and the Horns. Major's a big asset and Mack knows it. If the Major wanted to move on, there would be plenty of takers out there.
