Michio Kaku thinks that we're nearly at an end to Moore's law.

I understand what he's saying, and he may be right that heat will ultimately stop Moore's law with regards to silicon, but I doubt that, macrochonologically, the law will be impacted much. Perhaps a slight slowdown but one that will, over time, be overcome.

Glad I waited to get my hands on one of the new Intel chips. I was set to buy a computer kit last week but couldn't decide on which SSD drive I wanted and, in the middle of debating, Intel released the new chips.

An interesting aside, but not really relevant in the context of the discussion, AWK. Moore's law is a rule of thumb in the history of computing hardware. Everybody understands what it means and it's just another in a billion cases of usage determining meaning.

If it makes it easier, maybe we should discuss whether Moore's law as it is understood and used by millions of people worldwide, will come to an end within the next 10 years.
