Will Kevin Shorter Play?

Anyone know the status of commit RB Kevin Shorter of Newton, a 2014 commit? He was injured during a HS game this last season. He was told that his scholarship offer would be honored by UT if he was unable to play. I have not found anything definitive about his recovery. One poster recently indicated Shorter tweeted that his playing career was over. I have not found that tweet.

Any additional info would be appreciated.

From what I have read, it seems most believe he is out, at least in the short run. People are hedging about the long run since it's probably hard to predict neurological recovery for the long run. This article on BON about recruiting in general, mentions in passing that he is presumed done.

I was afraid this was the case but was hoping the Horns could benefit from hit skills.

Matt Nader was the Westlake player with the heart condition that prevented him from playing but his scholarship was honored by Texas. He did not count against the 85 scholarship limit. Shorter would be in the same situation. I, too, hope he takes advantage of the scholarship.

Corey Avery is from Dallas Carter where Bruce Chambers coached many years ago. Nice to have an inside track to Avery. As indicated in the quote, commit LB Cameron Hampton is also from Carter HS.

Tyres Dickson was redshirting right before Mack's first class at Texas when he was in his bad car accident. It's nice to know that Texas has stepped up in all these different and awful circumstances.
