Will Clemens Be Indicted?

From today's Chronicle:

Wice said the contradictions in Clemens' testimony added to Pettitte's testimony about HGH and the fact that Pettitte and another player said McNamee told the truth about their substance use comprise enough to make the Justice Department seriously consider charging Clemens with perjury or making a false statement to government officials.

Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor, thinks Clemens will not only be investigated but will also be indicted.

Dershowitz went on to criticize the hearings as being less fair than a kangaroo court.

Did anyone see the movie with Jim Carey (something with Dick and Jane) when he was in the house and screaming "Indicted! Indicted!"?

I think the IRS should be a bigger concern for him. If they dig deep enough, they'll find something. Insulting Novitsky was not wise.

I think he absolutely COULD be indicted. In fact, I think he could be very easily be found guilty of perjury if the case went to trial.

Before the hearings, I would have said there's no way they'll go through with it. However, Roger was so audacious in the face of mounting evidence. He better hope he didn't piss off the wrong people. I almost think it makes a mockery of the justice system not to indict him. Bonds got indicted under comparable circumstances.

I hope to hell it does not come to an indictment, not after being tried before the nation in a Kangaroo Kourt.I have always appreciated Al Pacino yelling at the judge.. YOU'RE OUT OF LINE!!!... Because yesterday it sure showed me that it's the government that is the real nut case in all this.

Jason Whitlock of Fox Sports gets it. The hearing is "the pot calling the kettle black," because Congress is nothing more than the same thing we saw between McNamee and Clemens -- politics and posturing and game-playing, and all degrees of not telling the complete truth about anything.

Could it have been more obvious yesterday what our central government is all about?

I just read that article and it's spot-on.

However, saying that Clemens shouldn't be indicted because Congress is a joke is a red herring. If you could ignore the ********, you saw that Roger perjured himself. Fortunely, none of our idiot representatives would be on the jury if it came to trial.

I don't want to see Roger go to jail - that result would be heartbreaking. But it's somewhat of an affront to the justice system to ignore his repeated lies under oath.

Congress looks bad no matter what they do now. This is the price they pay for getting involved.

McNamee's lies are 1) more numerous and 2) easier to prove.

Those of you who think Pettitti's recollections are gold need to ask why he was excused from testifying. There are those who believe that AP would have been a disasterous witness, and that is why he was excused. AP is the one guy in this whole investigation who would make Clemens and McNamee both look like Einstein. When you read his (AP's) transcripts, you begin to wonder if "misremembered" might be in the dictionary afterall.

Most people are going to believe whomever they want to believe. I'm probably guilty of that myself, but I still think McNamee has lied more often and in a more provable way.

Did Clemens use HGH? Definately, several people would have to all be lying for Clemens story to hold any water. So that means he perjured himself. Will he ever get indicted? Nope. This was simply a grandstanding opportunity for Congressional leaders to act like they care. I don't think anyone is wants to put a sports icon on trial for perjury. The only thing that would accomplish is people like us to question the work that Congress is doing in D.C.

Congress has done their damage. Outside of a couple of head in the sand posters on this board Clemen's reputation is shot. Roger failed to salvage the one thing he cared for with his "deny, deny, obfiscate, deny" strategy.

I'd bet Roger doesn't get indicted. First, Congress itself can't indict, but would have to refer the matter to the Justice Department.

The Justice Department has done nothing with Congress' request that the Department investigate Miguel Tejada for alleged perjury stemming from his testimony in 2005. Although Rafael Palmeiro supposedly lied, Congress has all but dropped any interest in referring him to the Justice Department for investigation or indictment.

Why wasn't Mike Stanton subpoenaed?

This would be a potential additional source to corroborate McNamee's testimony. . . apparently Mike Stanton also was well aware of Clemens' HGH use. . .

Mike Stanton needs to be talked to.

My feeling is that there are other people out there in the know that will come forward and continue to corroborate with McNamee. . .

Clemens is in big trouble.

Whether Clemens is guilty or not, our Congressmen showed how poorly we take care of business. That is quite an embarrassement. If this was in fact going to get to the bottom of the issues, this should have been in a court of law from the beginning. Please call your Congressmen and tell them what fools they have made of themselves and everyone concerned.

I have no problem with how congress has handled this. If it hasn't been for these two public hearings, HGH and steroids would still be rampant in baseball, and trickle down to youth sports. Not saying they fixed the problem, but they are forcing MLB and the NFL to actually do something.

Sure you can say they have more important things to do, but any time a handful of congressmen can spend a few hours and actually accomplish something you have to take that as a positive.

Thank you, Genco. If I read or hear one more sports reporter make fun of him saying "misremember", I'll scream. How easy is it to pick up a dictionary and verify whether or not it's a word --- and yet they don't do it.

Well Roger was right. . ."misremembered" is a word. . .

and you people really believe that Roger really knew it was a real word???

I mean come on, who uses that word in any context unless they are stumbling and fumbling for the truth. . .

so what if its really a word. . . people don't use it.

But he doesn't know what vegan means....

Hey, he fits in with a long line of San Jac community college alumni.

Apparently, Roger lied about not being at Canseco's party. The NY Daily News has a photo that shows he was at the party. He's a liar, plain and simple. I find it utterly ridiculous that some of you continue to defend that arrogant shithead.

I believe Roger knew "misremembered" to be a word before he gave testimony. There is no way his lawyers would let him testify to Congress without several hours, if not days, of rehearsing his appearance before the committee. This would include his preparing his responses to extremely difficult questions.
