Wildlife Reclaiming Detroit

A "gaze" of skinned coons? There "is" bald eagle, hawk and falcon? I'll bet that reporter ate a few servings of squirrel brains while growing up.

I've always wondered why/how massive Incan & Mayan cities in Central/South America were already abandoned by the time Europeans arrived, and also how/why so many huge cities in ancient European and Asian empires (Roman, Persian, Assyrian, Babylonian) disappeared completely, without even a village on the site today. In some cases, we might be able to point to disease, famine, drought, etc. But, I think a lot of it might have been attributable to what we're seeing in American cities today....urban blight, a rise in crime, and the flight of the affluent to outlying areas. Too expensive to rebuild, too dangerous to stay, too easy to move.

God bless the human spirit to survive.

I am headed to Detroit tomorrow (if the snow Denver is expecting tonight doesn't turn into a blizzard). I will let you know if I see any raccoon taco stands.

You mean the ancient Roman cities failed because they made bad cars? I didn't know Fiat went back that far, but that does explain a lot.

I don't understand this article. Wildlife like racoons are pretty popular in Seattle city limits. Heck, even deer can be found as they navigate the greenbelts running throughout the city. It's not uncommon to see fox and deer on the golf courses.

Is the story simply to show that Detroit is a ghost town? Or that they too have hicks that eat 'coon?

I live in Austin and have seen fox, deer, raccoon, possum, and coyotes within 1 mile of my house. I'm sure many in Austin can say the same.

Haven't been outside the Green Zone here in Detroit, but I haven't seen any sign of wildlife reclaiming the city. Very nice people. Good food. I haven't asked to see the paw for the meat I've eaten, but there was a rabbit in the Post Bar yesterday (after the Red Wings game). He wasn't there as a meat item; just a pet.

I saw a fox here in Buda the other day. Coyotes are around all the time. Also rabbits, ringtail cats, bobcats, and the odd wolf.
