why xp pro require frequent safe mode startup?

maybe its the old pc I'm using - Dell 1.60 GHZ cpu 128MBRam, my issue is frequent necessity to startup in safe mode (but not always). I have to then restore to a point in time from a few days ago each time, then everything is ok, except for one odd event of losing the recently installed Office2003 suite.

How does it lose the Office2003 suite? I suppose its because that was installed (Dec 2 or 3) after my restoration date (nov 30), although this is a sad state of affairs to lose such a big set of programs.

My main question is how come I have to repeatedly start up in safe mode? What are the common causes / remedies for this? How come this issue arises only about 10-20% of the time I start up and not always?

Mucho thanks in advance.

it's likely because your system falls woefully short of the minimum requrements for xp, most noticeably your ram. doubling that should help a lot, but 512mb is recommended.

Your processor is more than enough, but I would bump up your RAM. XP will run with 128, but it will run alot better at 256, 384 or 512. Your best bet to fix your problem is to reinstall xp after reformatting your HD.
