why would thieves cut power cords?

mom's house got burglarized and the thieves cut the power cords to the tv and other electrical stuff. made me curious

The reason is quickness. It can be hard to untangle the wires behind most TV sets, especially if they're routed oddly. Just cut it and they're gone.

It's relatively easy to replace/splice a new cord on when you have the time.

They would also potentially come into contact with more things that evidence or fingerprints could be left on, right? Getting your balance against a wall or a piece of furniture or pulling an entertainment center from the wall would mean more prints or contact unless you have gloves. Even then, more time and more risks.

Sorry about the burglary.

They are probably afraid of guardian shag mamba's behind the furniture...Besides that l00p, how do you know so much about burglary?

When our apartment got broken into this summer, the thieves took both of our laptops and our Wii. What I thought was funny is that they took all of the power cords/adapters as well. I expected them to be left behind or cut.

Waldo, different scenario. The cost for a special or maybe proprietary cord and power supply is greater than the run of the mill cord for a tv, vcr and the like.

Also, it is easy to carry these items you had taken so the cords can be taken as well since they can be detached and put in a bag or something for transport.

Saw this on an episode of CSI too.

But wouldn't the cords be plugged into an outlet? Wouldn't this be a hazardous chance of electrocution? Maybe the thieves are certified electricians.

I agree with BW, if a guy gets into your house and everything's locked down, he's gonna go out of his way to **** your **** up...

Ah, but this is when you release the nerve agent gas and catch him by surprise. He wakes just in time to be treated to the same thing James Bond did in Casino Royale. You know, when he was in the chair?!

Try to steal something from me, I will try to steal something from you, Mr. Bond, I mean, Burglar.

I came home earlier to find my tv unplugged. I called your shop, no answer. I am giong to have to bolster my security as my alarm and dog may not be enough. I will lay out magazines on the floor.
