Why was OBL in Pakistan?

Interesting article about why Pakistan would have been motivated to hide Osama Bin Laden. Is it not obvious they had billions of reasons to hide him and keep the US aid gravy train rolling? How much are they going to get once the war on terror has wound down? Bush was just too stupid to figure it all out.

Bush knew OBL was in Pakistan as did Obama. Obama continued Bush's policies regarding Pakistan. Therefore, I assume you meant to say both Bush and Obama are smart or both Bush and Obama are dumb. Just looking for clarification....

So you have all this figured out? Please do explain because the attached article really doesn't except to say that the ISI organizaiton cannot be trusted, which is pretty clear at this point.

OBL was a smart operator. I doubt he trusted anybody, including the ISI. He knew that any government would throw him under the bus if the heat got too hot.

OBL was smart enough to make an announcement just before the 2004 election knowing that would help re-elect Bush.

Think about why he might do that.

Better the dumbass who is busy slaying Iraqi windmills of mass destruction than someone who might not be as stupid.

I doubt the 80% of american people that couldnt find pakistan on a map voted for bush based upon a video from OBL that nobody saw. Bush won because Gore ran a terrible campaign and is hated by the people in his own state.

If you say so it must be true. Gore Received more votes than Bush.

Bush won b/c many wanted their very small surplus refund check, and the elderly wanted an unfunded Medicare prescription plan.

Might not be as stupid?

Damn, that's a gross underestimation of Algore and Kerry's stupidity.

Oilfield is right. GW Bush won two elections because of the douchers running against him. Hell, I voted for both of them and didn't like either one.

hornpharmd,

Bush received more votes both times that he ran for President, which is why he won.

I think what you meant to say is that Gore won the popular vote, which is not the vote. The popular vote sets the Electors for the Electoral College, which is who elects the president. Brilliant system set up by the US Constitution to ensure that each state gets a real say in who is President.
If we could get back to state legislatures electing US Senators we would be better off as well. That way states would have actual representation in the federal government. One of the worst changes/amendments to the US Constitution.

My guess:

The Taliban owed him after all he did for them against the communists' invasion of Afghanistan. I'm sure most of his oldest and first connections were in Pakistan. He couldn't go home. He probably felt safe near the academy as well. The US forces would have to go fight through the Pakistani army first to get to him. Either way he'd be forwarned from battle reports or ISI tips from the academy.

What a scared little bastard to be holed up for five years in the same compound. I guess that makes it a prison.

Burnt Orange, perhaps you haven't notiiced, but we're still in Iraq.

And Gitmo.

And Afganistan.

And now Libya.

Dumbasses indeed.

Was it your expectation when you voted for the guy that we would still be in Gitmo after 2.5 years?

Was it your expectation that instead of being in 2 needless wars we would be in 3 (that we know of)?
