Why was Chance in yesterday?

He threw 40+ pitches on Saturday. What was the point of putting him in with a 10 run lead yesterday? That seems like a perfect place to try out some young arms. Seriously, Augie's overuse of Ruffin baffles me.

The situation Sunday was actually a"close" situation. Had we held a 10 run lead after 7, the game would have ended.
With that said, I share your concern.

I understand the 10 inning rule was probably the reason. But we really have no other pitchers that can get a couple outs? Of course we do. I just don't see the purpose of putting our stud closer in a game like that unless he hadn't pitched in a while and needed the work. But he pitched on Saturday. So our closer goes in there with no edge and gives up a couple runs, blowing his consecutive scoreless inning streak and adding to his ERA. And for what? To maybe get out of Lubbock a little early? OK, that's a good reason...But I still think that another one of our stud pitchers could have just as easily gotten that done.

He's thrown 26 innings in 26 games, it's not like he's being overworked. If we're going to win in May and June we're probably going to need Ruffin more than once in a weekend, what's the big deal about him throwing 90 pitches over two days? I guess people need to find something to ***** about.
