Just had our top baseball source phone in and say speculation is running rampant right now and word is leaking out that Todd Butler, the current hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Arkansas, will not be back with the Razorbacks next season.
"You wouldn't be leaving that situation unless you got a better job," the source said. "It's still early, but maybe you can read between the lines on this one."
Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, nothing has been made official by Arkansas regarding Butler's departure. Also, I'm told Texas is still very interested South Carolina's Chad Holbrook. Our source said USC's advancement in the CWS is one reason why things have been quiet publicly in regards to the hire.
This one we'll be keeping an eye on to see what develops, but Butler is clearly a guy our sources have said Texas would love to have.
Harmon is under contract through 8/31, as I understand the news stories I have seen. So no new coach can be added to the payroll before then (unless Harmon is reassigned or leaves/retires) right?
I suppose there could be an announcement of an agreement, but it seems like it would be an odd situation to announce in June or July that someone is coming on board in September.
