I continually read about Congress and their dissatisfaction with President Obama's ideas and plans. We have seen it with the current jobs bill, the debt limit increase, the budget, etc.
Seems things have gotten turned around. I thought Congress was supposed to get these bills put together and passed so that they President could sign or veto them. Now the President seems to be the one who Congress is making come up with all the plans and then they are deciding if they like them or don't like them. The President should be telling Congress what kind of legislation he wants and perhaps give them some ideas that would push them in one direction or another. Then they should be putting their heads together and solve these problems.
The jobs bills is a perfect example. The President doesn't need to come up with a comprehensive specific plan. He simply needs to tell Congress that hey we need to do something in the way of a jobs bill in order to get Americans back to work and decrease the unemployment rate. Then it is up to them to get it done. That is their F***ing job!
Same goes with the budget. The President turned in his budget proposal and left it up to Congress to take it and roll with it. He even followed it up with a speech outlining more specifics to try and help them. But in the end it is their job to get it done and they have failed.
Then the debt ceiling limit that went down to the wire. That was the job of Congress again and they let it go all the way down to the deadline. The President stepped in to try and help negotiations. He gave them a plan that they could take or modify. In the end he helped negotiate a compromise that including delayed spending cuts which will be decided later. But again it isn't his job to get this done.
Is it the fact that the 2 parties that control different houses of Congress just can't seem to work together that causes the President to need to intercede? Perhaps. But I don't think we the people should be waiting for him to do something. I think we should be blaming Congress for not doing THEIR jobs and we should be putting the pressure on them.
