Why I don't travel to Baylor

Coming to the game this week, I was a bit nervous that we might not have the home court advantage with the number of Bear Fans entering the FEC. So happy that wasn't the case.

The first time I went to Waco for a game was also the last time. The experience was horrible. The fans are about as gracious as their funny-looking coach. Take the following post-game notes for example... what coach doesn't at least give a nod to the other team. I am so glad we have Coach G and not Coach Sulky.

TEXAS QUOTES
Head Coach Gail Goestenkors
Opening Statement: I'm just really proud of the team. We had a week that was pretty intense practices and we were working on a lot of little things that we needed to get better with. We were so disappointed in our last game with Iowa State. I was glad to see it pay off today. it was a battle. We knew it would be a great game. Baylor is an excellent team. I thought for the most part that we stayed with the game plan. Different players showed up at different times. Everyone I thought contributed and helped us come away with the win.

BAYLOR QUOTES
Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening Statement: I told them in the timeout that if they cut this game to single digits by this mark, then they would have a chance to win it, and they did. We cut it, and then we gave up the big three-point play. I want to say this about Baylor--we are not going away. We had every opportunity to fold our tent today and use excuses about freshman. Look, it is what it is. Melissa Jones is gimpy. We are getting about all we can out of her. She is still not well. When we were out there, I looked up one time, and we had five freshmen on the floor. Give them the minutes because one day they are going to be able to execute on the offensive end, and that is where we are having our problems.

My experience traveling to Baylor home games has always been positive for softball, WBB and Volleyball. Last trip we had a last minute change of venue on campus for the Volleyball game and Baylor fans were extremely friendly in helping us find the new gymnasium.

They sure had great crowd support for their team here in Austin Sunday afternoon.

because I always get horrible seats and when I get to my seat there are 100s of empty seats in the lower bowl.

I don't get it!?!?!?

But since that's the closest Big 12 school to me I have to suck it up and endure. When I attended college +15 yrs ago, it was OPEN seating - 1st come 1st serve. If the bottom bowl was full I would have no gripes. I understand the method to their madness (season ticket holders, $$$ donation) but come on leave a few seats for the average ticket holder. I attend a lot of games at Baylor and it just frustrates me that I can't purchase a better seat. I don't even mind paying more for a better seat but at least give me that opportunity.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

O, I never have any problems with the fans and I'm usually going against Baylor.

WCBBNUT – I have been to a half dozen or more games at Baylor, both before and after coach Kim. My experience every time was just like what you describe. The best reaction I ever got was to a statement like “this is a good game…” was a scowl. They booed our team as they took the court. They booed Jody Conradt, a Baylor alum, when she was introduced, and they booed absolutely every call that did not favor Baylor, no matter how obvious. They were completely classless. I am sure Baylor has some WBB fans who are not obnoxious. I just haven’t ever met them. I finally gave up a few years ago and stopped even trying to make that trip.

I do give the Baylor crowds credit for being loud and supportive of their team. I often wish the Erwin Center was louder and more supportive of ours. But, if the cost is what I have experienced at Baylor I’ll pass.

WCBB, I can say the same thing...that my first trip to the Ferrell Center was (and will be) my last. The fans were the absolute worst I have ever encountered...ANYWHERE. A relative who was with us (a UT fan) actually came within seconds of having a violent encounter with a stupid Baylor fan who kept flipping us the bird in the next section of seats. As we walked out to our car after the game, this idiot followed us and had we not steered our relative away it would have gotten to that level. Unbelievable. No class. Mulkey, as great of a coach as she is, is just way too dramatic for me.

Glad we have our fabulous, classy, focused-on-the-game-and-not-our-facial-expressions coaches!!!!!!

I've seen some really bad fan behavior at the Ferrell Center. For such a religious bunch, they sure don't act very Christianly.
