Why have we abandoned attacking the corners?

Agreed.
As much as we all hated the Greg Davis offense because of his sideways passes; the sideways pass does have a place in football.
It forces the D to spread out more.
Sweeps too.

We used them well in the first half and then went away from them. I also think we didn’t try them at all vs TCU. But TCU wasn’t able to stop Bijan. OU has the horses to stop Bijan.
But we quit that “attack the edges” concept at the half and made Bijan run into stacked boxes who were selling out to stop him.

It’s like we found the brake pedal in the second half.

We could not get to the corners in the 2nd half because our OL could not stop their penetration.

I guess I would include the quick hitters to the edges where our receivers go 1-on-1 with their corners as “attacking the edges.” Or wide receiver screens.
I don’t remember any of these in the second half. While they worked to well in the first half (like the first play of the game).
I would think plays like this don’t require the O-line to hold up for long and also force the D to play off a bit so as to give help to the corners - thus opening up the running game.
It seems we used Bijan as a decoy a lot in the first half and it worked well. In the second half we started giving him the ball on first and second down - which OU was selling out to stop.

This was the same time that OU was blitzing heavy to get the ball back. We should have gone deep.

Seems to me that if we had both Bijan and Keilan in the backfield at the same time they could both flair out to the flats and all they would have to do is catch the pass and make one person miss. Then they could gain 5 to 15 yards everytime.
But that's not all, in this scheme the linebackers would have to flair out with them. This would leave the short middle open, a crossing receiver could be open or Thompson could rush up the middle for a decent gain. Or surely one of the Robinsons could get open on a wheel route fast as they are. All kinds of good things could happen in this scheme but Keilan never got on the field, a weapon never used. WTF.
Somebody tell me how that scheme would not work.
That's all the more reason i am pissed. I am a couch coach and i can think of that.
