Why do I love college baseball?

Somebody asked me this the other day. I think it's because it's the last bastion of kids playing for love of the game. Most of them know they won't get drafted, yet the give their all for their school and their fans.

It's an accessible game, too. Fans have more of an opportunity to get to know the players.

I've always said that football is prose; baseball is a poem. College baseball is especially so. There is a purity you don't find in other sports.

I agree with you 100%, I will add that you can have a pitchers dual turn into a Home Run Derby. No Lead is ever safe. The routine ground ball/fly ball is not as routine in college, you keep watching the entire flight of the ball.

It is just so much more fun, I remember going to ASU games growing up and Texas games in college, much better than Wrigley or Comiskey Park.

There is no clock, only a predetermined number of outs. It doesn't always happen, but when the college guys put every ounce of energy and emotion into those last few outs, it's pure enjoyment.

I think the playoff structure helps intensify the emotions. The first two weekends are similar to March Madness, but the final 8 scenario, with its double elimination and then best-of-3 championship series, is like the Final 4 on steroids. You might see your team play 5, 6, even 7 games in a 12-day stretch. I remember not wanting the 2005 season to ever end, I actually had trouble getting into football that year. Until, of course, VY and company started to work their magic...

Because it is the last bastion of amatuer team ball. These guys, while technically men, look like boys (mostly anyway). They play balls out, and usually all the players are treated the same. Whereas in pro ball the "stars" are protected in the line-up and not asked to bunt and sacrifice like other players. It is refreshing and equitable. Many times, a player who has average stats shows up big. The smiles and joy are unadulterated. I love it and cannot understand why the game is not celebrated more.
