They all talk crap about vince young.they underate us.On some pre-rankings on espn.com,they have us as like #11!!!!!!???????,then they put texas tech as #8,mizzou #9,and ou #3??????????????????????????All those teams are crazily OVERATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We beat Texas Tech by nearly 20pts last yr.The only good team mizzou beat was kanas, who even they were overated!!!!we would've beat ou last yr if it wasnt for jamaal charles fumble on ou's 5.or if colt mccoy had seen quan cosby wide open for 20yds at the end of the game!!!!! This is your first time isn't it? Maybe the community will go easy on you. Someone needs to lay off the punctuation.

Many fanbases feel this way. We notice our criticism more because it is us. They also like to rattle cages and ours is a big cage. We have MANY fans but more enemies who are jealous of us. They eat it up, we respond. It is a vicious cycle.

Ignore it and move on.

Well, one reason Texas is a pre-season #11 or there abouts, might be because this coming year's version looks like it is about a #11 at best team.

#11's pretty good.

If each year starts with the burnt orange blood horde (of which I am a proud member) hoping, praying, screaming for another MNC, a top 15 or better pre-season is just fine as an out of the blocks ranking.

I'm 53, and from observation over about 45 years of being a die-hard Longhorn football fan, I can tell you it just comes down to that ONE game in early October in Dallas, and watching out for a quirky upset elsewhere in the season.

Machts nicht on pre-season rankings.

I, for one, would have loved to have seen our team ranked lower. It gives them more to fight for. With our skill positions players being so young, and our new defense, people want to see it perform.

Fine with me. I have confidence in our recruiting and coaching. I just wish they got slapped in the face with a 16 or lower to give them a little chip on their shoulder. You're less likely to drop passes, miss blocks or assignments when you feel like your not being respected.

i know,#11 is pretty good.but i just dont think tech or mizzou should be ranked ahead of us. really tech though.i think tech should be around 25-20,not #8!!

Remember who is writing this stuff - sports critics and pundits. They don't get paid to rank us high because WE ARE TEXAS or write puff pieces on us or anyone else. Secondly, the sports media in genearal has a perception among most of our fans as having a bias toward all things UT, especially re: football (see media buildup to 2006 Rose Bowl NC game). That, as "they" say, is just the way it is.

Now as far as ranking (pre-season) those other teams ahead of us, remember these writers look at what they did last year, how they finished, their upcoming schedule and what players are returning. It is a guess / speculation so it is hard to quibble / argue with some of those pre-season picks IMO. If they ranked UT pre-season #20 or higher, then our fans would locate those critics to kill their livestock, poison their wells and burn their farms to the ground. You may be right, some of the picks may be overated and we should be ranked higher, but nobody really knows at this point.

As for picking UT 11th: Based on our schedule and the question marks we have coming back this season on O & D - with key players like Sweed, Hills, Jammal, Finley, Okam, etc. drafted to the NFL ... we have some holes to fill. We also have a D that last season gave up gobs of passing yards... well, I think us being ranked between #9 - #12 is about right at this point - I sure don't think we should be ranked in the Top 5 preseason.

Point is, the Horns will prove it on the field by winning games and the teams ranked pre-season ahead of them will win or be exposed and lose games if they are overated. If the Horns win they will move up where they deserve and where we want 'em to be.

I think we have a lot to be very optimistic about coming into this season: The new Mack ala Holiday Bowl victory, QB with 2 yrs experience returning, 2 very good and seasoned WR's returning(ship & Quan),an experienced OL, strong DL and good LB's... and the wild card: Muschamp. What he does with the D may change the face of not only the D but the team.

Have faith and be patient amigo.

Considering the players we lost to the NFL this year, being ranked 11th isn't too bad.

(But, of course, don't put too much stock in these sorts of off-season rankings; a lot of it simply guesswork.)

take a look at some of the "awsume" teams kansas played.-------- ------------------------ --- ----- ------ --------------------------------------------------- Sep 01, 2007 CENTRAL MICHIGAN W 52-7 ..... How self centered of you to think that they hate the Horns and their fans because YOU have a headache.

Why do all the critics hate UT in football?

Critics? Hell, son, it ain't just the critics. It's every sumbitch outside o' the Great State.

An' it ain't too hard ta figger, neither.

Two reasons:

One: they're J E A LO U S.

Two: they got reason ta be jealous, and the poor bastids KNOW it.

I think it was Dandy Don Meredith I heard say it one night, back when him and "Humble H'ard" Cosell useta do them Monday Night Football games... and we all tuned in regardless of who was playin', on accounta we just wanted ta hear Dandy Don stick it up Humble H'ard's *** really good - an' mosta the time Humble H'ard didn't even know it was happenin' to him - anyway, where the hell was I? - oh, right... I'm pretty dang sure someone else said it first, but it sounded best comin' outta Dandy Don's mouth: "H'ard, ya wanna make real sure you don't never ask a man if he's from Texas, 'cause if he ain't, well, ya don't wanna embarrass the poor sumbitch, an' if he is, he'll let ya know pretty soon."

Those who don't like UT and its' fanbase say we're arrogant. Not true. We just don't get into cults (aggy) or the dust bowl. (okies) We also like to support a team that has at least a reasonable chance of winning the championship every few years. That would be...TEXAS! It's as easy to hate as it is to jump on a bandwagon...it's not so easy to be objective about something or someone you don't like. Hope all of your posts are as easy to answer...
