Why Bohls sux, etc.

We could rehash this one over and over, but I think Texas
people have been spoiled by truly great sports writers.
Shrake, Cook, Sherrod, Jenkins, Herskowitz, et al. No
one EVER mentions bohls in that group, but we have to
watch him put his puss on the front of the sports page of
the Statesman. Who decides this?

I grew up reading Sherrod and he was ok, over rated . Bohls is very good. Just does not always roll over for UT, so many on this site don't like him. Most of those who object to him make arguments like "he didn't vote for my guy, so he sucks"

Grow up! Bohls is a very good writer, who has his own point of view. And he is not in the UT athletic department's back pocket. I like that.

I don't live in Austin. I only read him from time to time. He usually makes sense and does not always gush over the Horns.

Other than not voting for Vince, share some particularly egregious examples please.

Thus far, the responses have been in the "he doesn't like me" or " his not a fan of my school even though he writes for the home town paper". Big deal. I like to have a foil. It keeps me honest.

The only one no i that category is the Mihm comments. Which were probably true. Even if they hurt. He has done very little, but take a pay check at the next level.

I've read Bohls since he started writing for the AAS. While all sportwriters "stir the pot" as a ploy to attract interest and sell papers, Bohls, and other AAS writers, seem to harbor animosity to the UT programs because they do not provide the unlimited access they would like. I suspect UT does this as a standard practice and probably also because they don't trust them (and pretty much any sportswriter).

Bohls does not like the Texas programs and in particular the football program. Why describe Muschamp as being "as visible as Tiger Woods these days" in the paper this morning? Why should he be visible in the closing days of recruiting season? Maybe he has more important things to do.

OK, I'll give you that one..... he does use attention-getting phrases. I love the Horns, most of my family are alums, but I try to be a realist. We are not always the best.

I like writers who will tell both sides. May on this board go ape-sh... if anyone is at all critical.

Bohls is one of the few Texas sports-writers who is interesting, not just a home-town-hack.

I don't have a problem with him stirring the pot. My problem is that he just isn't a very good writer. He's not funny, compelling nor insightful, and certainly is not a master of prose.

No, LikeMike, it is by people who know more about quality journalism and can spot it when it exists. They can also spot when it is not there as well. Maybe just a more intelligent or discriminating audience is chiming in.
