Why are Gilbert and Shepard left out of Army game?

Looking at the roster for the West at next Sat's US Army All-American Bowl game, both Gilbert and Russell Shepard are not listed; there are three QBs but none of those two made it.

Anybody got a clue why one of the best players in the country (G. Gilbert) would not be there?... and not long ago, Russell Shepard was nationally touted.

Here the West's roster:

Is either of these more prestigous or elite than the other? Do they both invite all of the consensus top 30 or so players and see who accepts or is there other criteria?

The UA game will be #1 in no time. Its got advantages in location (put your Texas bias aside, Orlando is a more dreamy vacation than SA), the name (UA can pump more money/products into it than Army), and this year, TV coverage (primetime on ESPNHD or noontime on NBC?). Plus, the UA game practices are on TV, plus the skills competition on Saturday.

I would assume he would, although I havent seen a schedule of events/competitors or anything. I'd guess he probably would enjoy the chance to showcase his arm in a laid back environment. He could look lethal in some of those accuracy competitions, but Barkley will be tough to beat in a long toss type event. He's got basically 5 months to take it easy after this week, and I'm sure his arm is still in good shape given the fact that he's only had one week off.

I rememeber reading that basically all the recruits were participating in all-star games. I'm only aware of the Army game (7) and UA game (5) which would have 12 our recruits participating. In the army game you'll get to see four defensive recruits and Chris Whaley. In the UA game it'll be a treat with our future QB and line (3 OL, 1 TE).

Last years UA game was UNWATCHABLE easily the most boring and worst produced football game I have ever watched in my life.

The Army game will always be better, even if it's 100% notre dame recruits.

ESPN is putting a ton more resources into this year's game. It finally got moved out of the Pop Warner Stadium into the Citrus Bowl, which was the biggest need IMO. Last year's production was pretty terrible, but with it being prime time and in HD this year, plus the fact that they've been pimping it hardcore the last week with the ads during bowl games, you can bet that they've dedicated a lot more time and resources to the game this year. And not that coaching REALLY matters in these games, but the UA game has former NFL coaches while the Army game has high school coaches.

This year I'd say the games will be about equal, with maybe a slight edge still to the Army game (although the QB play in the UA game should be WAY better, which is probably the biggest factor in these games) but in the future, I'd look for the UA game to gain control.

Timmons will be in SA.

Couldnt Fox do something similiar with Army game and with the skills compt, etc? Show the game live on all affiliates, let them decide when to broadcast the secondary events. Just a thought. I would like to see ESPN have some competition -- they have turned into a monopoly.
