Who writes the recaps for the UT baseball games on texassports.com?
The Link

I know that 'northpaw' has been thoroughly discussed here, but where does this person come up with some of these...I have never seen more cliches used in an article than I have in those recaps.

(from tonight's recap):

Some of the passages you quoted probably resulted from cranking out a gamer on deadline; those gaffes should be cleaned up with a later writethru.

A couple of the other howlers suggest the writer is trying too hard, especially the cliched "wouldn’t go gently into the good night."

I imagine a student journalist is responsible. Give him or her time; improvement is sure to follow.

i for one look forward to the game recaps. i like the themes. props to whoever writes these. tamu-cc's takes the cake.

Ahoy! From the TAMU-CC recap:

"The dominance of the Longhorns' pitching staff was also above board..."

"Kendal Carrillo kept the Islanders offense embayed striking out three of the four batters he faced in a scoreless seventh inning..."

"Taylor Jungmann and Sam Stafford capped off the keelhauling..."

"Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-24) fired the opening salvo in the top of the second inning..."

"After firing across the Islanders' bow in the first three innings and stranding three runners in scoring position, the Longhorns finally got the game back to an even keel in the bottom of the fourth..."

"Connor Rowe's cannon arm and the inning-ending play at the plate was not close..."

In the wake of the stellar defensive play in the top of the fifth..."

"Texas put the Islanders over the barrel with four more runs in the bottom of the seventh..."

What It Was Was Baseball

Maybe occasionally they could get Andy Griffith to write copy.

This feller threw the little ball at this other guy with a large kind of glove on his hand, but it didn't get there as another guy was standing there with a kind of stick and he swung that thing...

I sometimes think that baseball must be more complicated than it looks to me (I'm learning a little more). I also think that it may not be the science that some seem to think that it is.

I am sorry for disareeing with you all, but I have ben thoroghly enjoying these articles and all the refreshing bits thrown in there. Yeah, may be the writer is trying hard or overdoing it (may be making some mistakes too), but I certainly prefer it to the usual no-insights reports that we see about baseball games. There is a lot more drama in baseball games than how the wrap-up stories bring out. Perhaps that is the journalistic tradition in baseball. As far as I am concerened, if a few random extra bits like "kept them embayed" etc creates a more elaborate mental picture in me, I enjoy it ...
