Who would you play?

Lowell Gallindo asked Coack Sark about continuing play against former SWC / Big XII opponents. Coach was non-committal. I thought that Texas signed a long-term deal with Tech. Am I wrong? If so, who would you want to continue to play, if any?

I would be OK with Tech, Rice or the occasional visit to Kansas or K State. With Tech and Rice, I'm thinking recruiting opportunities.

I too recall reading tceh begged UT to sign a 10 year game deal and CDC agreed.

Tceh desperate for any legitimacy.....

Correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT: In my mind, Rice and UH cancel each other out - Winner Rice.

Texas plays in Dallas each year and while my grandmother was a fan of SMU (no money to attend) they and TCU are out.

UNT is interesting as an occasional OOC opponent.

This article was back in July of this year. Nothing formally agreed to yet because according to Tech AD we're 'scared' to play them...HA!

Growing up, we had mostly boys in my Oak Cliff neighborhood. I didn't seek fights, but I didn't back down even from the bigger boys. Only lost once.

As Militaryhorn wrote, Don't be scared. As Tom Petty sang, Won't Back Down.

Not sure if I understand the question. My thinking is that Texas playing in the Houston and Panhandle regions COULD help with recruiting in those areas. Would it hurt? You disagree?

I really think the Horns need to AT LEAST schedule some periodic OOC games with foes in DFW and Houston. Lubbock not as much, Waco, hell no.

Rice, UH, TCU, SMU... maybe UNT.

Primarily for recruiting!

WM, I will disagree. Waco has the Mammoth Museum (been there), Dr. Pepper Museum (been there), Texas Ranger Museum (been there)....Umm mm can't think of anything else.

You are probably right.

Dont forget the Texas Sports Hall of Fame... or a similar name. I visited it years ago.

My Dad was born in Waco and grew up there before enlisting in the Navy in WW2. Graduated from UT 1949.

He NEVER had anything good to say about Waco during his 90 years on this earth!

What is to be gained by ever playing Third Ward?

1) They agreed to enter the SWC and play us in Rice Stadium because Jeppesen held like 25,000 and the Dome cost them nearly $100,000 per game. They RENIGGED!

2) "Come back & play us at Jeppesen & we'll give you extra tickets" - Sure they did, they sold three different purchasers the same seats.

3) Check the average drive-bys, muggings, car thefts, in Southeast Houston. Wanna go to the game in a tank and wearing bulletproof vests?

Any recruit interested in going to School on Cullen ain't likely on our recruiting list.

NOTHING to be gained by playing them in anything. (Check their graduation rates.)

If there was a DOUBLE LIKE button it would be pushed. UH can rot in football H3ll for the BS temp seats fiasco.

Of the old SWC/Big XII teams, I'd feel anywhere from happy to neutral if we occasionally schedule

Rice
SMU
Kansas
Okie State
Iowa State (though I cannot fathom any reason to do this)

I'd be pissed at the abject stupidity oozing out of Belmont if we scheduled

UH
Baylor
Tech
There is absolutely nothing gained by winning against any of these "schools", and a whole lot to lose. Scrape them off the bottom of our shoes just like we did to aggy, until we couldn't any longer.

SN, I like your OOC recommendation. Occasionally, I would include SMU for my late Grandmother. I still want Tech for the presence in the Panhandle.

In my opinion, none of these teams warrants a road game for us. Even if we played Tech or Baylor, why would we agree to play them at their place to make a presence for recruiting purposes. They can come to DKR or they can f*ck off. The only team I would consider playing occasionally on the road would be Rice because of the talent pool in Houston. We already have the RRR in Dallas so no need to play at SMU or TCU.

I’ll tell you what would be fun (and different) is a “road” game against UTSA in the Alamodome. But first, we need to progress beyond playing in the Alamo Bowl every year. No need to play there twice in the same season.

We don't need to play in Houston to recruit there. We actually do pretty well there considering what A&M, LSU, and others say about our recruiting.

The Panhandle no longer has any good recruits. For the 2024 class, there are only two 4-star kids from Midland/Odessa. Playing Tech does nothing to help us nab them, either.

I'm fine with the "patsy" game being a team from Texas, but typically at DKR. Rice, UTEP, UTSA, SHSU, etc. But we don't need to do any favors to the XII. They sure as hell aren't doing us any.

I'd tell tceh to pack sand. The only SWC/B12 school I'd even consider is TCU. I'd like to see Texas get away from playing schools like Rice and the Louisiana directionals. And please please please don't ever add Tarleton and ACU like tceh and anm have done.

The funniest thing I've heard this month at least.
Reminds me of when Mike Tyson was early in his career and opponents would say they weren't afraid of his power. However, once in the ring him with they ran like rodents.

I would not play any of the 8 of the 10 Big 12 before the expansion. Tech is a hard no. We will be playing real aggy probably on a yearly basis and as well as facing the arkie jihad annually as well. Don't need sand aggy for anything. Us v. aggy will cover Houston, but if we need to play there maybe get swamp aggy to agree to a neutral site game at Reliant. Rice occasionally. We play the dirt burglars in Dallas, so we don't necessarily need any more games there. UH is a hard no and should never be played in football. For out of conference state schools, UTSA should be played the most and every 3rd or 4th game should be in San Antonio. Would be like a home game just down the road with at least 60-70% Horns in the stands. Utep and UNT would work as well. Don't care about smu or tcu, just don't need to play them. Same with Okla. St. they weren't relevant to us before the big 12 and won't be after we leave. Bailor should not be played in any sports, period.

I don't care about any non Texas b12 teams except the occasional mullet game (osu).

Tech
Baylor/Rice/SMU occasionally
UoH for the locale

I'd be okay with playing one former Big 12 Texas school (nearly) per year at home, cycling through them, plus some non-Big 12 Texas schools. Just in a random order for example:
2030 - TCU
2031 - Tceh
2032 - @ Rice
2033 - UH
2034 - UTSA
2035 - BU
2036 - Rice
2037 - Tceh
2038 - <maybe one year off here or there>
2039 - @ TCU
