Who the hell doesn't like Bruce Springsteen for ..

I don't like Bruce Springsteen, but I'd never kill anybody over it.

Well, maybe Bob Stoops.

Or The Eagles.

doubt i'll ever knife fight anyone over it, but mark me down as not liking springsteen outside of 2 or 3 songs.

Tried watching this video, but it made me want to break things...I had to shut if off. Springsteen sucks, always has, and most likely always will.

Good clip above.

The E-Street Band in its prime might be the best live band of all time, there are some jaw dropping videos on youtube from the 70's. I've never seen anything with the kind of intensity like these clips.

Bruce can rip it on the guitar too.

The intro and lead-in to 'Prove it all Night' is absolutely amazing.

Yeah, because I don't like his music, I'm pretty sure it does suck. If it didn't I would like it. But that's just my opinion, and that's all that matters to me, and it shouldn't matter at all to you. So I repeat, Springsteen sucks, always has and probably always will. BTW, he is, at best, a mediocre guitar player.

The rule is, if a musician has fewer people that like them than don't, they suck. If they have more people that like them than don't, then the people that don't like them suck.

83 Horn

Firstly, you may not like him but 'sucking' should be reserved for people who are actually terrible at what they do. You may not like what he does, but in no way shape or form is he bad at it. I don't really like post-60's Miles Davis but in no way, shape or form does he suck.

Secondly, mediocre guitar player in what context? Compared to jazz virtuosos, or prog/metal fretboard gymnasts - yes. Compared to most other guys in rock bands? Uh, no.

You have never seen him live or have never seen him play guitar if you say he's a mediocre guitar player. 83Horn, i'm guessing you wouldn't know a guitar if it hit you in the head.

I'm interested to hear about who 83Horn thinks doesn't suck.

Also, I've been watching these clips from Passaic, NJ in 1978 and as a veteran of hundreds of live shows, and being a musician myself who plays live - I'm not sure there's ever been a better live act than Bruce and the E-Streeters around that period. I mean, better than the Who,better than Ween, better than Zep, better than Queen, better than Floyd, better than Wilco, better than Van Halen, Flaming Lips, whoever.

Bruce rides around on 4-wheelers with Bob Stoops, Al Franken and Rose O'Donnell and they shoot puppies. And cuss Jesus. On Easter Sunday.

Dead aussie's estate should sue Bruce for this forseeable act.

The point is, that which constitutes suckage is completely subjective. It has nothing to do with the ratio of who likes a particular musician vs. who doesn't like them, or how popular someone is, or how accomplished they are at selling records and concert tickets. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that Brittany Spears was selling millions, and I believe she is almost completely without talent. Whether you are a professional musician or not is also irrelevant. You are no more qualified to proclaim "the greatest live band of all time" than anyone else. Who sucks and who doesn't is determined by the individual, and nobody else.
Regarding Mr. Springsteen's talents as a guitarist, I assess his mediocrity in the context of other professional guitar players. While true that I do not play guitar myself, I'm pretty sure I could identify a guitar before it hit me in the head. Having seen Santana (multiple times), Stevie Ray Vaughan (multiple times), Johnny Winter (multiple times), Eric Clapton (multiple times), Leo Kottke (multiple times), Jimmy Page (multiple times), Jeff Beck, Robert Cray, among many others, I also believe I can identify a truly great guitarist from one who is mediocre.
So, the bottom line is, perhaps "suck" may (MAY) be a bit strong of a word. I'll admit that Bruce and the E-street band are accomplished musicians who sell lots of records and tickets. I find their musical style completely unappealing and their act contrived, or in other words, sucky. Anyway, it's the fanatics who wet themselves at the very mention of Springsteen, and proclaim him the "greatest of all time" that get under my skin. There's lots of great music and musicians out there, and none of them can really be classified as "the greatest" Just enjoy what you like for what it is.
