Who picks up fallen trees?

Last night's storm knocked about a half a tree out into my yard. I wish it was in the street because I'm guessing the City would come collect it then. Any ideas/recommendations on ppl in Austin to call?

Anyone want half a tree?

Go to the City of Austin website. They pick up trees about twice a year in each neighborhood. Maybe you will get lucky and it may be coming up in a few days.
You have to cut it into pieces, though, and stack them facing the curb, and there is a size limit, I think it is 8 inch diameter.
If you cut it up, there will be people who will take the big pieces, though. Mine lasted one day.
If you don't cut it up, you could put a "free wood" sign, and see if anyone would cut it to get the wood, or else pay someone to cut it and haul it off to the city dump-they have an area for organic material.

well my bulk isn't until august, and i couldn't even pick it up a few inches off the ground so dragging wasn't an option.

the tree is a loss, so we've got a guy coming tomorrow to not only haul off the fallen portion but cut down the rest. it's too bad, it's the biggest tree in our front yard and it's right on the corner, but two lightning strikes/wind storm run-ins in the last couple years has done it in.

without calling my ins. company but asking others i was/am under the impression that you're pretty much **** outta luck if the tree doesn't damage something in the fall?

Anyone have any recommendations on tree services? I lost half of a Bradford Pear tree Tuesday night. That was the half away from the house which landed on the fence(only minor damage to fence). The remaining part all leans toward the house and specifically the ketchen bay window! I need someone with some experience that can climb the tree and cut portions of the limbs so the they will not crash onto the house/gutters or through the window.

Or I guess I could just board up the windows and wait for a big gust of wind from the Northeast and let Mother Nature finish the job

Last summer a smaller redbud tree had to be cut down and the guy that did it charged $250 to cut it down and remove from yard. I think that the guy was just a hack with a chainsaw and don't know if I would trust him on this one. Any idea of what the total cost might be? $500/750? I have already cut up fallen portion and stacked semi-neatly in yard.

Not so. State Farm paid me a few hundred $$'s for the loss of value when a large tree in my backyard came down...this was in addition to paying for the cost of damage to my house and having the tree removed
