What an incredible body of work!The Link

Miller's Crossing is my personal favorite but they have so many great movies. So many great supporting actors like Jon Polito. All the little extras like sounds of horses on cobblestones whenever Tom and Leo discuss Verna.

I like the way they go to certain actors like a painter might mix paints to get a certain color. For example, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Jon Polito, Jeff Bridges.

my quick ratings on a scale of 1-5, FWIW, which is nothing:

Blood Simple = 4
Raising AZ = 5
Miller's = 4
B Fink = 4
Hudsucker = 2
Fargo = 5
TBL = 5
O Brother = 5
Man Wasn't There = 3
Intolerable Cruelty = 2
Ladykillers = 1
No Country = 5
Burn After Reading = 3
Serious Man = 3
True Grit = 4

so yeah...I like the Coens.

A word or two in defense of The Ladykillers, which is admittedly not the greatest work in the canon. Two scenes in the film make it worth sitting through in its entirety. The Waffle House scene is a masterpiece of comic timing and performance. Check it on Youtube if you have not seen it.

And the scene where the guy from the Farmers INsurance commercial tries to revive his dog from cardiac arrest by artificial respiration is inspired.

Raising AZ = 5
O Brother = 5

Therse are two of my favorite of all time. Didn't know they did them but am not surprised.

Quick piece of trivia: In Raising Arizona, when H.I. was out of jail, he worked for Hudsucker Industries. That's my cool story, brah...

besides being a really good suspense movie, one of the cool things abt Blood Simple is the scenes of 1984 Austin (6th St, Mt Bonnell when you could drive to the top of it, Dessau Dance Hall).

O Brother is one of the best films ever made. It is in my top 10 of ALL TIME.

Number 1 on my list is A Man for All Seasons (1966).

If you don't like O Brother, you are likely a moron and probably should not reproduce until you have found a cure for your condition.

Best wishes.

What do you think about the Big Lebowski as some kind of a modern Christ? The long hair, beard, sandals, robe are clearly not accidental Christ-like associations. The John Turturro child molester character was definitely the devil. It's not just a simple knock on Christianity, I'm not sure where they were going.

"You O Brother fans probably already know it was an adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. "

Yes. That whole period of the great depression to WWII is kind of like America's Odyssey into the modern age.
