What do you guys think? How's the social life, convenience, etc. I've just graduated, so I don't really want to liive in the campus area. I was thinking of the south congress area as well.

i live at 360 and spicewood springs. about 2 seconds from the arboretum. it's nice. traffic can be a ***** to get downtown, but there's a lot of **** in that area of town. decent restaurants, etc. not that many bars but what are you gonna do?

Everything you need is around here but this area lacks personality like other parts of town. Frankly, it's kind of boring up here after dark, not much goin on. But, if you can get a nice poolfront Apt. like I have, the sights this time of year make up for everything else. I just hang out at the pool to meet people.
And, the only good neighborhood pub I've found is BB Rovers up on Research.

Thanks. Maybe I should explore the southside. Shorter drive to warehouse and campus area. I guess the Aarboretum area would be cool if I were married or had a steady gf.

78704 is where it is at. I live at the State House on Congress which is right next to the Continental Club and across from the Austin Motel. The apartment complex is excellent and is very well maintained. I am living in a one bedroom that is about 800 square feet. The management is very good and treat with you respect unlike at other places.

The location is great and close to downtown, UT, all the bars. Also, it is great to be able to stroll on S. Congress just steps away from your place. The State House apartments have a much better layout than the Alexan in my opinion.

penn, I was considering that place. This is for August btw. Since I'm in real estate, I'll get the commission. But, even then, I think it may be a bit out of my pricerange.

South Austin is the bomb. I live in an older complex w/o a pool and all, but it's still pretty nice. Friendly folks.

hell if you are young and are going to get drunk 3 nights a week then live downtown and find a cabbie you like and hang onto his card. I lived just South of the River for 15 years before moving Up just past the Arboretum. I really enjoyed the location of travis heights but my house was pretty expensive to rent even a few years ago.

It took me until my second child to be cajoled into moving out to where I live now. I love the access to all the resturants, stores and theaters off of Jollyville without having to get onto the freeway.

traffic heading dowtown is indeed a *****, but I go crosstown on 183 and it's a lot quicker (and less frustrating) than my former half the distance commute South on I-35.

Live downtown or out off barton Skyway for a year or two and enjoy the downtown life. Then move out to the Northwest if you can afford it.

I concur the State House vote. Awesome complex and great area. Drive to downtown is...oh wait, you're already there.

skyway is an option, but I do like the south congress area. I 1/1's at statehouse are 900 or so, but they may have specials and of course my commission.
