Who finished the bar exam today...?

As someone getting out of the field of law after five years in it I say good luck, and I hope you find it more enjoyable than I did....

Congrats to all for getting that bar thing out of the way, good luck in the practice of law.

WU-What are you going into? What field of law were you in?

After passing the bar 2 years ago, I had trouble finding legal work. I ended up in the regulatory department at an energy company. I am not practicing law right now and am really enjoying it.

I did.

I'm so glad to be done with the Bar. What a joke of a way to spend most of my summer. I'm off to Australia on Monday. No better way to forget about everything I learned than scuba diving.

Well, then we were at the same gorgeous location.

I agree 100 percent on laptop vs. writing. I don't know if I could have taken the exam if I'd had to hand write. I do so much editing while computer typing that I can't imagine what kind of path I would go down if I only had one shot at it.

That, and my hand wouldn't be functioning by midafternoon.

It's funny... I have friends, good ones, who don't want to use their computer for exams because they are afraid it will break down. I figure, if it breaks down, then you have to write. What's the difference?

I took it in Houston on my laptop. I don't know how anyone could write essays on paper anymore. It is a skill I just don't possess any longer.

wow...they let you do that now...i liked writing the essays by hand, i figured if they couldnt read it, they had to pass me which they did...

law school was a waste of time after 1st year. 6 years of practicing litigation made me realize what a sham our law sytem is, how much money and time is wasted on frivolous and generally bs cases and how crappy people can really be....i moved in-house and found that the evils preached about corporations and the people in them is a bunch of bs.

I took the Bar Exam in Austin 10 years ago and by this time of the last day I was already hammered. My law school friends and I started drinking beer and Boone's in the parking lot. Good times.

A couple of days later I took off for a month-long trip through Europe.

I was in Real Estate and owned my own title company. Very financially lucrative. I sold out and haven't worked since 6/1/08 and I am so happy about that.

I'm trying to teach school. Just finished up my alt cert class, qualified to teach anything grade 4-8 and history 8-12. I take 2 exams tommorrow- social studies and english/language arts for grades 8-12. Little worried about passing the english exam, could pass the Social Studies passed out/blindfolded. Really looking forward to teaching and doing something more meaningful with my life than closing real estate deals.

Thanks, now all I need is a job. I've got like 20 or 30 applications in, everywhere from Willis to HISD to Aldine. Haven't heard anything yet, but I think most principals/admins are gone in July. Only one of the jobs I applied for was filled. That was at Madison high- in my cover letter I wrote that I wanted to teach at Vince's High School at the very end. Figured, what the hell, worth a shot to throw in.

I really don't care where I teach or what, the first year. Just need to get some experience and figure out how to run a class. I'm really excited about working with kids. I'm a little scared that I will suck, but it won't be for lack of effort.

It amazes me how cavalier some peope are about teaching, it's just a job I don't see how you can do for a paycheck- you can fundamentally **** up some kids life by giving them a string of bad teachers- I can't imagine not being afraid of being one of those guys. If you suck at your job suck at selling real estate or flipping burgers or something like that, don't suck at something where you can have a hand in screwing up a future generation.

Seriously though Bob- good luck practicing law. A few people I know even seem to be able to tolerate it a little bit on their best days ;-)

Well, I'll admit it - I took the bar in '05. Didn't pass. Not by much, but didn't get it done. I was exhausted from law 24/7. I was a teacher before law school and fell right back in it. I really wish I had some of that big law $, but I truly enjoy my job, the pay is decent, and as the head tennis coach, I miss more school than I can remember. I might work 6 months out of the year and enjoy the moments I get with my family. If you do decide to teach, it is a pretty sweet gig. Good luck to all who took it.

Congrats on taking on the beast BiH (and anyone else who took the bar). Here's to hoping that when the scores come in you conquered it.
