ESPN Insider has an article about what schools do with their recruiting talent...

ESPN Insider

Schools that have improved their recruiting the most since 05-06:
Baylor #4, Houston #5

Schools that have seen their recruiting fall the most since 05-06:
Nebraska #5, Oklahoma #10

The schools that do the MOST with the least: (overachievers)
TCU #1, FLA #4, and Texas #9

The schools that do the LEAST with the most: (underachievers)
Texas a&m finished #3 and Colorado #8

I don't see how we or Florida are overachievers with the least. Both schools are achievers though. But both have ranked in top classes in recruiting the past several years.

Us and the Gators doing the most with the least?

Since when have either of us had problems bringing in a good to great recruiting class?

Even though Leach is gone now, how can Tech not be on the list of overachievers? I mean, how often do they even have a top 25 recruiting class?

Boy how the reputations have changed. Wasn't it Mack who used to do least with the most after his first 7 seasons?

agree with TCU being #1, no way Florida bellongs on that kind of list, they are getting everybody they want.

I live in Husker country now, and I am constantly hearing about how Texas always has the #1 recruiting class. When I tell them that Texas' usually barely cracks the top 5, and sometimes can't crack the top 10 or 15, they don't believe me.

To me it's definitely annoying that so many fans out there just assume that Texas has had lights out recruiting the last few years. It's been pretty bad *** the last 2 years but I think Mack deserves some credit for "coaching up" the boys.

Just to add to what the posters above have stated, here are Texas' last few recruiting rankings:

2005 - 20th
2006 - 5th
2007 - 5th
2008 - 14th
2009 - 5th
2010 - 3rd

Yet, we finished #2 in 2009, #3 in 2008, that seems to indicate that he is coaching them up. I reread the article and it does not state the formula they used, but I am assuming it relates the average of the 4 recruiting (then playing) classes based on how the team finished.

e.g. in 2009, we were playing with recruits from the 20th, 5th, 5th and 14th ranked recruiting classes, or (avg of 11th, but you may want to weigh the 20th and 5th ranked classes a little more since they are upper classmen, so a ranking of 12 or 13 may be more appropriate) and finished #2.

Regardless, Mack is a gear coach.
