The consensus on the game thread is that Herman just isn't a fit here. His assistant coaches surely aren't. So assuming Baylor beats us and Tech wins in Austin and he's let go, who do we go after?
 
Texas won't get rid of Herman. Texas is in a continued spiral of mediocrity that fans make fun of a&m, Nebraska, Arkie etc about.

Texas will not make a splash hire because Herman will be given at least next year.
 
We will not be rid of Mensa until 2022 at the earliest....maybe end of 2021 if we "really really" suck by then....Who we get ? By then all the good ones will be taken. I'm for Art Briles at this point...anyone who can keep me from having to watch a horrible offense ever again !!!!!!!!!

You cannot let lose a HC after winning 10 games and a major bowl game the prior season. The dumpster fire that was Charlie Strong was still smoldering this year and just broke out into a full fledged general alarm fire in Dallas this season. Where is the senior leadership? Some very good senior players, but zero senior leadership.

Herman had better think very carefully as CdC's talk to him after the end of the season has just gone from "don't you think both coordinators probably should look elsewhere" to "I have just told all offensive coaches except Hand and all defensive coaches to be gone by sundown".

Remember, Herman was not a CDC hire. I'm sure CDC already has a basic plan in place. The old general rule is, what you see after 3 years is what your stuck with. Herman has had one solid and one mediocre season. This one isn't over yet, but could potentially be his worst if he loses to both BU and Tech, then loses in a bowl game. Recruits are already decommitting, and ones we may have had a shot to land, may go elsewhere. Once the fans become disgruntled enough to stop going to games or worse decline to buy season tickets, the financial impact will result in someone's head rolling. And it won't be CDC's!
 
@BevoJoe — one thing I feel confident about is that CDC is the CEO of Texas Athletics and will act accordingly. I don’t expect him to tolerate mediocrity for long and he likely has broad discretion on decision-making.
 
Texas needs to make a Saban type hire. Alabama finally got fed up with a decade of mediocrity and begged Saban to coach for them. How many times did he turn them down before he said yes ? At least twice ? I wouldn’t even mind the douche Urbie.
 
Crappy breaks with wholesale injuries this season. Please stop ignoring this fact. Plus there’s only been two full seasons of recruiting for Herman. Everyone breathe....

The injuries are systemic and TH looks just as lost as Strong did but in a more confident way.

Even if Texas goes 7-5, we need a new HC. I want a nation wide search with a vertiable bank thrown at the top options. I think Saban is past his prime. But I would absolutely love to see Lincoln Riley, Matt Rhule, Gary Patterson, or Mike Gundy to coach Texas.

These are all guys who have proven they can coach in the Big 12. Riley, Patterson, and Gundy would be my top 3. It would improve Texas and hurt the school we took them from. Win-win.
 
Oh ye of little faith..... I’m not happy with the loss either but for some of u the sky is falling/has fallen/will fall some more... This team fought back to take the lead late, just couldn’t hold it.... They’ll give Baylor everything they’ve got next week...
 
Other than Patterson why would either of those guys, or anyone at a successful program want to even consider this challenge? Just don’t see it.
 
Who gave Herman an extension last year through 2023 ??? Don't expect anything from CDC unless he was against the extended contract Texas gave Herman. Even if...we are stuck with Herman for at least 2 more years and that will be enough to bury us into mediocrity through 2025 or further.

What did Coach Royal or someone say about breaks / luck ? Its when "preparation meets opportunity ." Since our preparation apparently sucks we may never have much luck, so ......... On recruiting ....Have you noticed they are de-committing left and right....breathe ? We'll breathe (a sigh of relief ) when we get coaches with a **** clue.
 
If we don't start clearing out these coordinators then we aren't serious about winning. Herman's legacy at Texas will be made or broken after this season. He has to make changes to his staff.

I don't have faith in Herman. Why would any rational person? Even if Texas beats Baylor. Baylor is going to the championship game. Texas isn't.
 
We lose to Baylor, then beat Tech or lose a close one to Tech, then win our toilet Bowl game . Everyone will have renewed faith, only to see us go 7-5 or worse again next year....Cause it is happening if changes aren't made. LSU, OU are losses for sure. OSU with a seasoned Sanders in Stillwater...Thats 3 losses right there.......then we have the usual losses by getting out coached. 7-5 or 6-6 once again.
 
What is Herman's buyout if we fire him after next season ?
We need to hope USC wins out and they keep Helton.
Then fire Herman next year and sign Urban Meyer.
 
I don't think TH will be gone, but Rule, Fleck or Campbell would be at the top of my lists. They know how to turn a program around, don't squander talent and their teams don't beat themselves.
