Who do we Reps want to win the Dem nomination?

Normally, I would like to see Hillary get stomped, smashed and embarrassed, but many of the talking heads say she's easier to beat that Obama in a national election. So, do I take a risk and pull for Hillary realizing she might win it all, or do I pull for Obama, eliminate Hillary and realize the GOP could lose it's God given right to the white house? I'm sure I can only get the right answer at the West Mall.

Here is my suggestion. Do whatever you can for yourself to develope peace of mind, because there isn't a politician in either party that can offer that. Regardless of what you believe the Repubs stand for, their primary allegiance, like that of the Dems is to lobbies and special interest groups.

I want Hillary gone. Even if she's more "beatable" by the Republicans, I hope she loses the primary, so there isn't even the slightest chance of her taking the White House.

I think the overall racism of America will keep Obama out. Honest opinion. Not the right thing, but my honest assessment.

Either way, there won't be a great leader as our next president.

As a Republican, I am torn. Conventional wisdom would suggest that Clinton is the more beatable candidate in the fall b/c of her polarizingness. However, if she picks herself off of the mat and manages to win the nomination, it would prove what I believed all along, the Clintons will never die. I will not underestimate them. Ever. If we can kill her off now, probably for the best.

Obama is the most gifted orator of our time. Can he carry Florida and Ohio with his glowing rhetoric? If not, doesn't matter much.

I'm torn between what ousux says and wanting HRC to win it simply because if McCain needs help motivating the right's vote, nothing he can do or say will do that more then HRC getting the Dem nomination.....

Obama's much easier to beat than Clinton, b/c once he talks specifics, it'll be impossible for him to hold independents. However, HRC will motivate more conservative base voters, so she helps the GOP more down ballot.

HRC would be easy to beat for the left because of her husband. Obama has not talked a lot about issue untill the general election.

I want Obama because if he wins in November I could stomach an Obama presidency far more than I could a Hillary presidency.

I think there are great opportunities for the Republicans regardless of who the Democrats nominate. Obama will probably not be able to reverse the Hispanic vote that Dubya pulled in 2004; Hillary will energize the conservative base.

What I'm rooting for right now is for Hillary to win Ohio and Texas by enough of a margin that she thinks she should continue running but still has an unlikely shot at the nomination. We need the DNC to be a train wreck and the Clintons are just the type of people to deliver it.

The more hotly contested the Democratic race is, the better it is for the Republicans in November. it's important that neither have the delegates needed to secure nomination before the convention so the circus can really get going.

I'm just cheering for a brokered convention. I don't really care who wins, I just think it would be entertaining.

As a Republican who doesn't think there's any way John McCain lives out a presidential term, I have some serious concern about who the Democratic nominee is. Depending on who McCain picks as his running mate, I may just have to vote for the Democrat. So I reckon I need to vote for the person who I think would make the most competent president.

Unfortunately, I don't really know who that is. It's likely to be a game-time decision.

I really want Hillary to win the nomination. I think she is more beatable, but at the same time she is more rational IMO and has more substance than Obama ever could. It would suck to have her in the WH, but IMO she would be a better PResident than Obama. He simply is way too liberal and his far left policies are beyond wrong for this country at this time. I actually think HIllary would be more fiscally responsible which is a sad commentary on this batch of zeros candidates and that applies to both parties.

Instead of trying to stack the race by picking the more beatable Democrat, I would start thinking up some new ideas for McCain. The same old same old “reduce taxes, war on terror, more deregulation” has proven false and expensive, both in lives and the compounded national debt with which the Republicans have shouldered us.

You need some new ideas for your old nominee.

I want Clinton because I think Obama is far more liberal. I think McCain has about the same chance as beating either of them.

Lone Star in response to your 'cut taxes' comment. I will shout this again. Taxes were NOT cut. Tax RATES were cut which have led to INCREASED tax REVENUES.
I think we can agree on many issues including the fact that the government needs to learn to control spending. But as was just mentioned spending is a different matter. Tax REVENUES are up.. so in essence Bush "raised taxes."

until this week I didn't think we had a chance.

I think otherwise now. the Democratic candidates are weak and the dogfight for the nomination has been ugly. but we need it to go all the way to the convention.

I wish the Rep side had a better choice so I could vote my party again, but they dont. Hell, I'd even go with Romney if he was still in. However, calling Obama a week candidate is just delusional and uninformed. I wouldnt even call Hillary one per se, but I think too many people hate her.

Confirms why I asked the question - some good thoughts and opinions, but nothing certain. Last USA Today poll of likely voters I saw he McCain barely beating Hillary and barely losing to Obama, but both within the margin of error...and both based on national popular vote. Saw Romney endorsed McCain today. If only Huckabee would drop, McCain could start saving money while the Dems as pointed out spend their war chests right up to the convention.

Obama. Just because I want to hear the Clinton machine complain of some unfair treatment or cheating from the Obama campaign. There is always an excuse from them.
