who cares about joba?

i had this conversation last night. we heard about him getting stretched out every ******* 1-2 inning outing he had. then he finally starts, and basically goes the same amount of time. whoopty freaking do. all that "work" they put in on him, and now he's just another young pitcher in baseball.

did they expect him to be fernando or gooden immediately just because his uniform has pinstripes?

Why cant he go to the minors and figure it out like everyone else does? Any other team would be sending someone down to work into that role. Andy Pettite made a comment the other night that basically they better not take him out of a game to give Joba some work or there would be trouble on the mound. Not those exact words, but you get the point.

I do. The kid's a Nebraska boy. He may pitch for the evil team in NY, but he's our own.

Yah, ESPN is way off the deep end on this guy. He has great stuff and I don't blame NU for being proud of him. But is he really any better than Tim Lincecum or numerous other great young arms who have debuted in the last couple of years? Even the Papelbon starter/reliever dilemma never got this much attention.

With all due respect to Husker, I agree. Mike and Mike just went on and on about him this morning(when they weren't talking about the Mets or the Red Sox).

Joba = Bobby Jenks in pinstripes.

I'd rather have Lincecum, Hamels, Verlander, Volquez, Cain, F.Hernandez, Saunders, Marcum, Danks, Billingsley, Shields . . .

j. brent might be filling the old joba role ahead of rivera pretty soon. he's doing well in triple-A right now, and no one out of farnsworth, edwar ramirez or latroy hawkins have shown they can be reliable. i might become a bit of a yankees fan if cox can become a great one in pinstripes

He's fat. He's good and he's a Yankee. If he delivers, he'll be a big store. They said they were selling his picture for 400 bucks at Yankee Stadium.

I'm confused, as well, as to why I keep hearing his name mentioned. Can someone fill me in on the story?

I understand he's being moved to the starting rotation, but why do I keep hearing his name mentioned? Is that really the story? That's he's being moved out of the bullpen?

It was stupid for them to try and develop him like this in the majors. They should have sent him down and let him stretch his innings in another league. Teams are going to stretch their at-bats and try and wear him out b/c they know they will pull him after 60 pitches and then in comes the tired (down 1 guy) bullpen.

this is the kind of **** torre would never have done and wouldn't have to. i bet all the vets think this sucks *** having to field questions every day about fat joba. i am SOOOOO pulling for Girardi to fail. he sounds like an arrogant *** and he's getting it handed to him.

as an aside, i like the kid outside the fact he acts like he closed game 7 of the ws after every out.

The kid is from the midwest and played in the Big 12. Can't we all just be happy for him and stop giving two chits about what the media does or doesn't do. You'd be working your asses off too to get into the starting rotation of the New York Yankees if you had the opportunity. This is a kid playing against unimaginable expectations in the biggest media market in baseball and y'all would rather ***** about him getting over-hyped. Get a freaking life. Not to mention his dad has seen him play one game in KC in person because of health issues. Good luck Joba.
