Who are the best ugly actors/actresses?

I started to watch John Adams on HBO tonight and my wife left the room because she says that Paul Giamatti repulses her. He does not have classic leading man looks, but he is still one of my favorite actors. So who are the best ugly actors and actresses? I'll start of by mentioning Paul Giamattia and Kathy Bates.

I think it's safe to say that, in these cases, performance rather than pulcritude was recognized by the Academy.
