you guys had me go and look at rock band in addition to guitar hero; I did and checked out the reviews and it seems that rock band gets better rating across the boards...whatcha think? I'll hang up and listen.
I like the instruments in GH better. Drums feel more realistic. Guitar fret buttons are easier to play.
With 2 games out, rock band has more songs and more downloadable content. Note that RB2 isn't out for Wii yet, and RB1 for Wii is a PS2 port (crippled version of PS3/360).
I think GH is clearly a better choice if you have a Wii or you plan to play the guitar parts by yourself a lot. RB2 if you have a PS3/360 and aren't sure that 80 songs is enough. Aside from that, I'd look at the set lists or the side-by-side comparisons on youtube. You should really find someone who has it and check it out in person. Or see if there's one setup at your local Best Buy.
yeah, there was another thread. I was asking which guitar hero was best without even researching rock band; I just assumed guitar hero was the best choice.
I heard alot of people have had problems with the drums for GH; sensitivity issues, something along those lines. At first I was thinking of just getting a guitar, but I'm re-evaluating the full kit set up.
You can use certain instruments with certain games. I'm sure if you got RB2 for the PS3 nearly every guitar available will work for it.
As for the GH guitar, I've played one twice now and prefer the Rb guitar. I don't understand the people who argue the GH guitars are far superior based one the raised buttons and clicking strummer. Those are the things that bug me most about them. Perhaps its simply because I "learned" on the Rb guitar and thus thats what I'm used to. Either way I'm sure Ball whatever guitar you get is the one you'll get most used to and thus like.
As for the drums, I've heard problems with both sets. I actually believe the most reliable ones are the RB1 ones that plug in. But I guess some people might prefer to have the 5 pad setup of GH:WT. Regardless I'd think the ideal situation would be for you to find someone selling some RB1 drums cheap (because they bought RB2).
BTW Just to get on my soapbox, the guitar post really bugs me. Noone posts a picture of a football when people talk about Madden or FFL, no one posts a bowling ball or tennis racket when people talk about playing Wii sports. Why is GH and RB the only video games that get a bad rap from people? Many video games simulate something that could be done in "real life" but people love bagging on instrument games.
If the vocals are any kind of important to you, get Rock Band 2, not GH World Tour. Tried the vocals on my friend's copy of GH and they were horribly programmed and freaking impossible to read (they must assume anyone who plays has a 50 inch flat screen judging by the text size, and the vocals are, in general, ridiculously unforgiving).
I say this not only because I prefer vocals to the other instruments, but also because in my experience, whenever I break out the original Rock Band for parties, there's always someone who wants to sing something or other.
Meh.
Oh, and Tbone, if I ever catch you doing Karaoke or just generally singing in public, I'll make sure to tell you to go study under a vocal professor like I did. Hey, if I'm willing to spend the time on it, I might as well be insulted that others aren't.
