I'm thinking up upgrade from my 17" to a 24" monitor. I'd like get one with super sharp graphics. Any recommendations on what I should look for in a new model?

My son has a Samsung TOC T240HD he got for a gaming system he built. It looks amazing with excellent contrast and very dark blacks, but he also has 4 video cards helping out.

If you are in the market for a POS monitor with some bad pixels, I would recommend a Sceptre.

I have had several ViewSonic monitors over the years and they've been good. Haven't looked much at monitors lately though.

Dell makes very nice displays. For a shade over $200, it's hard to beat this one:

The biggest drawback is that it is a 1080p monitor, as opposed to others that go up to 1920x1200. This could be a drawback depending on how you are planning to use it.

That being said, it's very affordable, has a great response time, and supports multiple input types (DVI, VGA, and HDMI).

You could do worse.

This one is pretty sweet, especially if color accuracy is important. Which brings up a key point when choosing a monitor. How important is color accuracy? Are you doing photo or video editing? The list of monitors that are color accurate is short, but worth checking out if that's important.

Have to agree that Dell makes decent monitors for the price and they're often on sale. Color accuracy isn't that good, though.

I recently bought this one. It's only 23", but its resolution is higher than HD (1920 x 1080). I'd recommend pretty much any Samsung monitor. Dell makes decent ones as well (although personally, I would never buy one...)

A good place to look for deals is Dealzmodo on Gizmodo. They have a dealzmodo post every weekday with some of the best tech bargains.

You should be able to get a 22 or 23 inch locally for under $200. Buy locally so when you discover a bad pixel, you can box it up and exchange the same day. I'd say about a fourth the monitors I buy have at least one bad pixel.
