I'll start.
I hunt deer, hogs, dove and quail at my ranch in Freer. In the spring I turkey hunt, though I'm not very good at it. I get the chance every once in awhile to hunt waterfowl on the coast.
I have a 195 class deer to my name that I shot 4 years ago, but this year I'm after a bigger deer that I've been watching the last few years

Ducks by the coast during the regular season and Minnesota once during the year. No bands yet.
had a really nice buck sittin in my front yard all yesterday. everyday, i have had several deer hanging out in the yard, but hadn't seen this buck. late in the afternoon another buck, a little smaller, came along. the two locked horns a few times before the smaller one went over to the neighbor's.
i am thinkin that the bigger buck had smelled the other deer's scents and had laid claim to my yard. the other buck comes along and they fought over who stayed. would this be correct?

Yes.. this time of the year bucks begin thinking about the does and competing for them. You'll start seeing more fights as the weather continues to get colder, and you'll see more "foreign" bucks.
At my ranch, December 13th is the magic date. I always see bucks rutting, and have since I was 5 or so. I have no clue why that specific date tends to be awesome hunting, even if its 85 degrees, the bucks are still more active than they have been or will be the rest of the year. That date is reserved for rattling, every other day I like sitting in stands and doing it the lazy way
