Where was all the noise?

I gotta tell ya, things were deathly quiet from my seats in Section H. USM had fans all over the stadium doing their little chants, but Texas had nothing going on. "Texas" "Fight" failed badly on two attempts. Absolutely nobody was making noise at those crucial points in the game where a little noise would've been nice. There was much less energy on the Texas side as the last 3 times I've been to Omaha ('02, '04 and '05).

I have 2 takes on this:

1) Too many seats at Rosenblatt are reserved for the locals. There should be a much larger bloc reserved just for Texas fans, so we're not all silently dispersed throughout the 24k seat stadium.

2) USM just plain represented. Much respect to their fans, who were there in big numbers, were loud, and knew their team well. No, it was not all LSU fans in disguise.

Dream season, coach retiring finally making it to Omaha vs. a team that seems to always be there.

Plus, they certainly represented like it was Mardis Gras.

My seats in P had plenty of clapping ang 5-6 starts of Texas Fight during the game. And yes, the main problem is that not many could hear us.

I've been several times, couldn't be there this year. You have to expect the locals to support the underdog, then whichever team is playing Texas after that. The 500 or 1,000 Texas fans, or however many there are, can't make much noise compared to the other 25k in there, that's just the reality of the situation.
Almost all the seats are held by the season ticket holders of the Omaha Royals, and they are all locals who love their Nebraska Cornhuskers, but support the College World Series. So bless them for building the great tradition of the CWS in Omaha, but don't expect them to pull for Texas, as we have beaten Nebraska too many times in too many sports.
And they tend to think we are a bit arrogant, for some unknown reason. Outside the games, the local people are great, though.

Orangeblood, Roofless, and anyone there

If you are sitting in H and P, exactly how far are you from the field? Please describe in relation to the Disch. Is it like sitting about 8-9 rows up in Sec 101/102 (Disch) or higher?

USM seats seemed lower and more together, while Texas seats' were spread out much more. Did everyone notice the 3 "large ladies" holding up the "hi" signs over the UT dugout, Must have been their first time on TV and first trip out of College Station.

There were some Omahans who showed up with UT orange on but most of them decided to support USM for obvious reasons.

Perhaps once the other schools are elminated more will decide to cheer on Texas.

Rosenblatt is so much bigger than the Disch, it's hard to compare. Section P is slightly up the 3rd base line, and Section H is more or less behind home plate. There are "box" seats below them which go for about 10 rows down. Sec. P and one other section (U, I believe, which is far left field) have some UT seats, although even in those sections there are opposing fans, and the neutral fans outnumber both schools by at least 3 to 1. This makes it very difficult to generate any energy from the stands.

Since the school has a ridiculously low allotment of reserved seats, most fans who have come across the country to see the game are on their own for tickets, so they end up surrounded by opposing partisans or disinterested locals,

The only saving grace about the new stadium (planned for 2011) is that they have the opportunity to fix this problem.

My observations from watching on TV were that the USM fans seemed closer to the action than our fans. When they showed wide shots of the crowd I saw a good amount of burnt orange out there....But not so much right around the first and third base lines.

From my couch watching on TV last Sunday, our crowd was totally pathetic. I guarantee you, when I attend a game I'm screaming my head off the entire time; too bad our fans can't be bothered to interrupt their tea time and cell phone conversations to support the team. If it weren't for the damn economy and how greedy, money-grubbing administrators have made it completely impossible for a fan making less than $300K per year to attend even a single game, I'd be up there showing you lame-asses how it's done. I certainly hope that you people put on a better show for my living room tonight.
