Hey all, I've got a friend who just moved to Austin and wants to go out to eat dinner, and is a vegetarian. I am not. What are some suitable restaurants who can cater to both diets well?

Thanks in advance!

People overlook Indian food a lot for vegetarian cuisine so I'll add:

Sar Ovar
Madras Pavilion (all vegetarian)

Also, Houston's has a homemade veggie burger that's very good and you can dig into a nice slab of beef at the same time.

Lots of places to choose from....

as other said, almost any Mexican place would work.
Chili's has an excellent bean burger, so that's an option. Also, almost any Italian place would work (lots of pasta dishes). Indian restaurants are perfect for vegetarians because alot of Indians are vegetarians. So tofu is always offered as a substitue for meat.

Cafe Mundi is supposed to be good. I've actually tried Mr. Natural. The food was surprisingly good. Apparently vegetarians have a pretty keen understanding of spices. They used them well in several sauces to offset the blandness of some of the food. The dishes came in familiar forms as well, with veggie versions of enchiladas, lasagna, etc., so it didn't feel like you were just grazing salads.

Threadgills has a ton of veggies to choose from.

After being disappointed in it the place about 7 or 8 years ago I gave it another try a year or so ago. It has been very good everytime since then.

My girlfriend's a vegetarian (sorta.. she eats seafood, thank god).

Anyway.. Clay Pit is our default. There are three or four places on South Congress where we'll go. Or.. if nothing else.. we'll just go sit on the roof at Whole Foods.

Asian is a good choice, because any of the dishes can be made with tofu.
Satay is excellent Thai food on Anderson Lane, almost to MoPac, and they have several veggie dishes.
