Where to stay in Rome?

I'm currently in Europe and planning to make the trek to Rome for the Pope's funeral. With 2 million people expected there may be a slight shortage of beds. Has anyone heard about where they are expecting to house all the people? Anything I can look into?

Thanks in advance.

Dont know any details but I did hear on the news that they may open up the sports stadiums as places for people to sleep. I does not sound too appealing.

I hear Vatican City has a vacancy. (I know, poor taste, but I couldn't help it.)

Can't help you with housing. Expect it to be extremely tight to non-existent.

If you're okay with the hostel thing (some even have private rooms), tryThe Link I just checked and it found some places with vacancy. I was in Rome a month ago and stayed at Hostel Otaviano (right across from the Vatican), Hostel Sandy (near the train station and the Forum) and Bella Roma (in a residential neighborhood about 15 minute walk from the Vatican). None of those are showing vacancy right now, but you could always try contacting them directly. They might also have info on where overflow was going. All of the receptionist were native English speakers. When I just did a search, several things popped up. One was Hostel Beautiful. We stayed in a hostel in Florence with some girls who had just come from Rome and stayed there and had really good things to say. It's by the train station... Good luck- I wish I could go!!!

Just sleep around the fountains of Piazza Navona. If you're all berrys and no twig, you might pass for a statue.

Sweet. Not only did I get a room with the link but I got it at a good price and at a place that was pretty highly rated. No sleeping in a stadium in the rain for this guy. Thanks a lot!
