Heading there for a weekend in 2 weeks. What area of town shoudl I stay? Want to be near the bars and going out area.

We stayed here years ago - it was great, and it still looks good. Portland is a neat town - reminds me a little of Austin.

We stayed there for 2 nights before heading to Victoria, BC. We were planning on coming back and staying at a hotel near the airport, but decided on another night here.

Ace Hotel is supposed to be pretty awesome. It's off Burnside.

The McMenamin's Kennedy School is a pretty cool place to stay but it isn't downtown. Not too far away.

The Kennedy school is booked months in advance.

My family and I stayed at Hotel Lucia:The Link 2 weeks ago. We have 3 boys but is is more appropriate for a couple. It's decorated really modern and has such special amenities like "pillow" service in which you can order from a menu of 6-8 different types of pillows. They have pre-filled ipods they'll deliver to your room. Things like that. It's also in the new hip part of town.

I'd highly recommend it. In fact, my wife and I are heading down their for Christmas shopping and will stay there if we can't get into the Kennedy school.

We got a smokin deal for a 1-night stay on a Saturday night. Parking is $30 extra though if you have a need.
