Where to lease boats for the summer?

There is a place on the Westlake side of Lake Austin where you timeshare a boat. You sign up for so many hours a month, sign up for when you want a boat, and it's waiting at the dock for you. I don't remember exactly where it was, but we walked through some kind of playground to get to the water.

I've never heard of a lease for one person just for the summer. It would seem to me that such a venture would be so expensive that you could just buy a used boat, use it for the summer, then sell it at the end.

The closest thing I've ever heard of is the time share thing. There are several on both Travis and Lake Austin. The one I knew about the most shut down not too long ago.

I think they are about $300 month but you can't just use it whenever you want. You have to sign up and you get limited chances on holidays/weekends.

I joined Freedom Boat Club about 2 years ago and they seem to be doing well. Didn't know that Elite died. I was just out at West Beach Marina today (too windy to go out) and was wondering why they didn't have their sign up. Volente Boat Club has been around the longest.

Freedom is a local franchise but the national corp supposedly takes over if one fails and you do get limited usage at the other 50 locations though they aren't on the west coast.

I've been extremely happy with this decision and plan to renew. It's just so easy at the end of the day when you're tired to hand the boat back to them and walk away.

Elite was the boat club I was thinking of. On a side note, that guy has something like 15 used Sea Rays up for fire sale right now. Some of them are practically brand new.
