Where to eat?

I'm coming to Austin to watch the baseball game fri. and sat. and have family down in S. A. that are going to come up to the game. They were wanting to meet at a fun place to eat that is also reasonable, where are the more interesting places to eat for a family (young kids)?

Hooters. Kids love boobs too

seriously tho, try Central Market.

If you have young kids, Joe's Crab Shack is a lifesaver. The playground allows mom and dad hours of uninterrupted dinner and drinks. It's the only place around I know with that combination.

Now comes the horde of "Joe's sucks/Chain restaurants suck/It's not real seafood" comments. Ignore them.

Hula Hut is really sweet. Always a party there, a more local, slightly nicer Joe's. It's owned by the Chuy's people. Especially if the weather holds out to what it is projected to do, you won't beat it unless you had to the Oasis out on Lake Travis and then the view is def. unbeatable. Of course while your "out" there, Carlos and Charlie's is really fun.

Other joints to check into (austin.citysearch.com) maybe anything on Barton Springs (although it's torn up, they got some cool, local rest. on it)

Of course then we hae the normal slate of Chili's, Olive Garden's, Joe's, Pappasitos' and the like.

If you've got young kids (like 5 or younger), Central Market is THE place. You'll be amazed by the family crowd.

Order what you want at the cafe, then eat outside in the dining area by the playground and park.

It's a regular thing for us -- we have a 2 year old.

But if you want to enjoy dinner and some drinks with family (minus screaming kids running around the table), Joe's is really the only alternative.

It bothers me that people recommend normal places like Hula Hut, etc, for family get togethers with small kids. Little kids HATE sitting at the table for hours. I did. My kids do. And letting them run around a restaurant where people are trying to eat or enjoy a drink just pisses everyone else off.

go to the posse. they can play golden tee while you drink a beer and it is a short drive to disch-falk. the posse is pretty dead on non-UT football gamedays so there won't be a crowd and there are several tvs.
